Vehicle traffic congestion leads to air pollution, driver frustration, and costs billions of dollars annually in fuel consumption. Finding a proper solution to vehicle congestion is a considerable challenge due to the dynamic and unpredictable nature of the network topology of vehicular environments, especially in urban areas. Instead of using static algorithms, e.g. Dijkstra and A*, we present...

A fiber optic conveyor has been developed for investigating the travel-time difference between two counter-propagating light beams in uniformly moving fiber. Our finding is that there is a travel-time difference Δt = 2vΔl/c in a fiber segment of length Δl moving with the source and detector at a speed v, whether the segment is moving uniformly or circularly.

Abstract This paper presents wavelet based analysis for transmission line fault location. Faults in power transmission lines cause transients that travel at a speed close to the speed of light and propagate along the line as traveling waves (TWs). Traveling wave theory is utilized in capturing the travel time of the transients along the monitored lines between the fault point and the protective...

Nowadays, transportation plays a very important role for students in the day to day life of the educational institutions, these institutes are mostly located out of cities. Need of monitoring the travel time and driver information are the major components of traveller information system in the institutions. The travel time of buses varies depending on some parameters such as Bus Drivers doesn't...

Travel time is considered as an important performance measure for roadway systems, and dissemination of travel time information can help travelers to make travel decisions such as route choice or time departure. Since the traffic data collected in real time reflects the past or the current conditions on the roadway, a predictive travel time methodology should be used to obtain the information t...

BACKGROUND Inequalities in geographic access to health care result from the configuration of facilities, population distribution, and the transportation infrastructure. In recent accessibility studies, the traditional distance measure (Euclidean) has been replaced with more plausible measures such as travel distance or time. Both network and raster-based methods are often utilized for estimatin...

A study was conducted on the arc and melting efficiency of the plasma arc, gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, and submerged arc welding processes. The results of this work are extended to develop a quantitative method for estimating weld metal dilution in a companion paper. Arc efficiency was determined as a function of current for each process using A36 steel base metal. Melting efficiency was e...

Accurate travel time estimation has become possible with the deployment of advanced traveler management and information systems. Dynamic message signs, websites, and handheld/in-vehicle devices are being increasingly used by public agencies to communicate important travel information to the public such as incidents, road closures and travel times. Travel time estimates are usually derived from ...

In this paper we consider the problem of constructing optimal highways. For two points p and q in the plane, a line h—the highway—and a real v > 1, we define the travel time (also known as the City distance) from p and q to be the time needed to traverse a quickest path from p to q, where distances are measured in the Manhattan (i.e. the L1-) metric, and the speed on h is v and elsewhere 1. Giv...
