Let M be a reductive monoid with unit group G. Let denote the idempotent cross-section of the G × G-orbits on M . If W is the Weyl group of G and e, f ∈ with e ≤ f , we introduce a projection map from WeW to WfW. We use these projection maps to obtain a new description of the Bruhat-Chevalley order on the Renner monoid of M . For the canonical compactification X of a semisimple group G0 with Bo...

This note describes a scoring scheme for the coreference task in MUC6 . It improves o n the original approach l by: (1) grounding the scoring scheme in terms of a model ; (2) producing more intuitive recall and precision scores ; and (3) not requiring explici t computation of the transitive closure of coreference . The principal conceptual differenc e is that we have moved from a syntactic scor...

In this paper we consider the closure UCI(Rel) of the class of relabeling tree transformations, under U=union, C=composition and I=iteration. We give a characterization of UCI(Rel) in terms of a short expression built up from Rel with composition and iteration. We also give a characterization of UCI(Rel) in terms of one-step rewrite relations of very simple term rewrite systems. We give a simil...

In this work we present a novel approach for activity extraction and knowledge discovery from video employing fuzzy relations. Spatial and temporal properties from detected mobile objects are modeled with fuzzy relations. These can then be aggregated employing typical soft-computing algebra. A clustering algorithm based on the transitive closure calculation of the fuzzy relations allows finding...

Irrelevant updates in a database are updates to source data that do not affect a view defined over the source data. Selfmaintainable updates are ones for which the view can be updated, without having to access source data, when the source data from which the view is derived is updated. In this paper we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for an update to be irrelevant or self-maintainabl...

In the course of Deligne’s proof of the purity theorem, he makes certain monodromy constructions which do not a priori yield legitimate `-adic sheaves. In order to make the proof work, it therefore becomes necessary to slightly enlarge the category of sheaves considered from `-adic (constructible) sheaves to Weil sheaves. These satisfy very similar formal properties to ordinary `-adic sheaves, ...

Abstract. By making use of the generalized hypergeometric functions, in this paper we introduce and investigate certain new subclasses of analytic functions of complex order defined in the open unit disk. Coefficient inequalities, radii of close-to-convexity, starlikeness and convexity, closure theorems, integral means inequalities and several relations associated with (n, δ)-neighborhood for t...

In this paper, we present a new method for fuzzy information retrieval based on multi-relationship fuzzy concept networks. There are four kinds of fuzzy relationships in a multi-relationship fuzzy concept network, i.e., “fuzzy positive association” relationship, “fuzzy negative association” relationship, “fuzzy generalization” relationship and “fuzzy specialization” relationship. By performing ...

We present new general method for proving that for certain classes of nite structures the limit law fails for properties expressible in transitive closure logic. In all such cases also all associated asymptotic problems are undecidable.

The connection between the balance structure of the evolution equations of higher order fluxes and different forms of the entropy current is investigated on the example of rigid heat conductors. It is argued that Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics with dynamic degrees of freedom gives a proper general frame of these investigations. Thermodynamic closure relations are derived.
