Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) promise a short energypayback time and offer a potential lowcost alternative to conventional photovoltaic devices based on semiconductors. This work describes the effort which has mainly been developed on DSSC solar cells with suitable dye for light harvesting and interfacial electron transfer processes with nano crystalline wide band-gap semiconductors. The ph...

This paper reports results of an investigation into the removal of ARB (Acid Red B) dye in an electrochemical oxidation reactor with semi-conductor suspended in the electrolyte. TiO2 nano-powders spiked with various elements, including Si, Co, Zn, La, Ag, Ce, W and Bi, were prepared by sol-gel method to improve colour removal efficiency. Through the L16(4 4) orthogonal experiment, the optimised...

TiO2/graphene nano platelets (GNP) nanocomposite cathodes have been synthesized through a simple ball mill process. TiO2 anatase nanoparticles, around 16 nm in size, were encapsulated in the 2D graphene matrix. The synthesized samples are characterized using x-ray diffraction (XRD), DSC, impedance spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The graphene nano platelets act not only to ...

We report the stochastic interactions between dye sensitized anatase nanoparticles, suspended in a colloid, and a Pt ultramicroelectrode (UME) that result in step-wise behavior in the current vs. time response. The stochastic currents are observed in the dark and under illumination. In the dark, the currents are anodic, consistent with the oxidation of the dye N719 at the Pt surface. The electr...

Concerns about the environmental risks of engineered nanomaterials (ENM) are growing, however, currently very little is known about their concentrations in the environment. Here, we calculate the concentrations of five ENM (nano-TiO2, nano-ZnO, nano-Ag, CNT and fullerenes) in environmental and technical compartments using probabilistic material-flow modelling. We apply the newest data on ENM pr...

One of the fabrication methods for functionally graded materials (FGMs) is a centrifugal solid-particle method, which is an application of the centrifugal casting technique. However, it is the difficult to fabricate FGMs containing nano-particles by the centrifugal solid-particle method. Recently, we proposed a novel fabrication method, which we have named the centrifugal mixed-powder method, b...

Despite uses of titanium dioxide (TiO2) particles in various consumer and medical products therapy increasing human daily exposure, little studies were conducted on its cardiotoxicity. Thus, this study was designed to investigate the possible modulation of nanoTiO2 induced genotoxicity, mutagenicity and apoptosis by chlorophyllin (CHL) coadministration in mice cardiac cells. Mice were injected ...

BACKGROUND/AIM The present study investigated the in vitro and in vivo effects of individual and combined doses of idebenone, carnosine and vitamin E on ameliorating some of the biochemical indices of nano-sized titanium dioxide (n-TiO2) in mice liver. METHODS The in vitro cytotoxic effect of nano-sized anatase TiO2 (21 nm) on hepatic cell lines (HepG 2) was investigated. Additionally, n-TiO2...

Improving the specific capacity and electronic conductivity of TiO2 can boost its practical application as a promising anode material for lithium ion batteries. In this work, a three-dimensional networking oxygen-deficient nano TiO2-x/carbon fibre membrane was achieved by combining the electrospinning process with a hot-press sintering method and directly used as a self-standing anode. With the...

A nano-grid structure of perovskite SrTiO3 NWs is developed for a novel electron transport layer in inverted polymer solar cells. Due to the excellent charge transporting properties of the SrTiO3 nano-grid structure, the device employing this nanostructure showed ∼32% enhanced photovoltaic performance, compared to the solar cell using a TiO2 thin film.
