Fluoride, a non-essential element, can enter water resources through several natural processes and human activities. The benefits and risks of fluoride depend on the concentration of this anion on drinking waters. In the present study, the performances of graphene and graphene oxide nanoparticles were investigated for the removal of fluoride from aqueous solution. In the present resea...

Graphene, a two-dimensional carbon sheet, has attracted great interest due to its unique properties. To explore its practical applications, large-scale synthesis with controllable integration of individual graphene sheets is essential. To date, numerous approaches have been developed for graphene synthesis, including mechanical cleavage, epitaxial growth, and chemical vapor deposition. All of t...

We investigated the chlorine plasma reaction with graphene and graphene nanoribbons and compared it with the hydrogen and fluorine plasma reactions. Unlike the rapid destruction of graphene by hydrogen and fluorine plasmas, much slower reaction kinetics between the chlorine plasma and graphene were observed, allowing for controlled chlorination. Electrical measurements on graphene sheets, graph...

Directed self-assembly of a block copolymer is successfully employed to fabricate device-oriented graphene nanostructures from CVD grown graphene. We implemented mussel-inspired polydopamine adhesive in conjunction with the graphoepitaxy principle to tailor graphene nanoribbon arrays and a graphene nanomesh located between metal electrodes. Polydopamine adhesive was utilized for facile and dama...

A simple process is developed to curl graphene membranes through thermal annealing. The resulting curled graphene ribbons displayed enhanced photocurrent response compared to flat graphene ribbons. The annealing temperature, the thickness of the graphene, and the type of polymethyl methacrylate used were the three key factors that influenced the morphology of graphene during thermal annealing. ...

Graphene has a negative thermal expansion coefficient; that is, when heated, the graphene lattice shrinks. On the other hand, the substrates typically used for graphene growth, such as silicon carbide, have a positive thermal expansion coefficient. Hence, on cooling graphene on SiC, graphene expands but SiC shrinks. This mismatch will physically break the atomic bonds between graphene and SiC. ...

Folded graphene has exhibited novel electrical and mechanical properties unmatched by pristine graphene, which implies that morphology of graphene adds the dimensionality of design space to tailor its properties. However, how to overcome the energy barrier of the folding process to fold the graphene with the specific morphology remains unexplored. Here we propose a programmable chemical functio...

A method to image random three-dimensional source distributions is proposed. We show that, by using a Michelson stellar interferometer in a prescribed fashion, one is able to measure a special form of a threedimensional degree of coherence. The inverse Fourier transform of this coherence function yields the threedimensional intensity distribution of the source as seen from the paraxial far zone.
