Solvothermal treatments of acetonitrile, aqueous ammonia and copper(II) salts frequently yielded alpha-[Cu(mtz)](1)(Hmtz = 3,5-dimethyl-1,2,4-triazole) under different reaction conditions. However, two new supramolecular isomers of 1, namely beta-[Cu(mtz)](2) and gamma-[Cu(mtz)](3) were successfully isolated upon introducing 4,4'-bipyridine or nitrate as an additive. 1-3 represent the first exa...

Strontium titanate (SrTiO 3) is one of the best studied substances showing a displacive phase transition [1]. At ambient temperature, it exhibits a cubic perovskite structure with the space group Pm3m. On cooling, a Brillouin zone-boundary softmode drives the second-order transition to an antiferrodis-tortive phase at T C = 105 K. The primary order parameter is the antiphase rotation of TiO 6-o...

The thickness-dependent electronic states and physical properties of two-dimensional materials suggest great potential applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices. However, the enhanced surface effect in ultra-thin materials might significantly influence the structural stability, as well as the device reliability. Here, we report a spontaneous phase transformation of gallium telluride...

Strontium Titanate SrTiO3 (STO) is known to undergo an antiferrodistortive transition from cubic to tetragonal phase at Tc ≈ 105K, and classical to quantum paraelectric phase transition at Tq ≈ 37K. This paper is intended to use Landau Theory to explore these two phase transitions of STO, as well as some experimental techniques to examine this model.

The electronic structure and optical properties in tetragonal ceramics PbTiO3 are studied by using full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method in density functional theory (DFT) with the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) by WIEN2K package. The theoretical calculated optical properties and energy loss (EEL) spectrum yield a static refractive index of 2.59 and a plasmo...

Sintered samples of monoclinic zirconia (α-ZrO2) have been irradiated at room temperature with 6.0-GeV Pb ions in the electronic slowing down regime. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and micro-Raman spectroscopy measurements showed unambiguously that a transition to the ‘metastable’ tetragonal phase (β-ZrO2) occurred at a fluence of 6.5x10 cm for a large electronic stopping power value (≈ 32.5 MeV μm). ...

The earlier-developed master equation approach and kinetic cluster methods are applied to study the kinetics of L10-type orderings in alloys, including the formation of twinned structures characteristic of cubic–tetragonal-type phase transitions. A microscopical model of interatomic deformational interactions is suggested which generalizes a similar model of Khachaturyan for dilute alloys to th...

Calculations using first principles methods and strong coupling theory are carried out to understand the electronic structure and superconductivity in cubic and tetragonal TiH2. A large electronic density of states at the Fermi level in the cubic phase arises from Ti-t2g states and leads to a structural instability towards tetragonal distortion at low temperatures. However, constraining the in-...
