BACKGROUND Bacteria have developed different mechanisms for the transformation of metalloid oxyanions to non-toxic chemical forms. A number of bacterial isolates so far obtained in axenic culture has shown the ability to bioreduce selenite and tellurite to the elemental state in different conditions along with the formation of nanoparticles-both inside and outside the cells-characterized by a v...
We report the symmetry of mechanical and gamma-ray attenuation properties for some tellurite glasses through elastic moduli, mechanical, transmission as a function varied WO3 amount in glass configuration. Four samples, along with different molar compositions well WO3/GdF3 substitution ratios, are investigated. Transmission using several essential parameters, such coefficients, half-value layer...
In order to decide whether in the bacterial cell the enzymes of the respiratory chain are located in "particulate elements" (1) or in the plasma membrane (2) we investigated the reduction of potassium tellurite in Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. For the first time in 1962 (3), and in more detail in 1964 (4), we reported that with Bacillus subtilis we had found that reduction products ...
Five selective media for the detection and enumeration of coagulase-positive staphylococci were evaluated for their efficiency in the recovery of 17 strains of coagulase-positive staphylococci from foods. They were Staphylococcus Medium 110 (SM-110), tellurite-glycine-agar (TGA), egg-tellurite-glycine-pyruvate-agar (ETGPA), tellurite-egg-agar (TEA), and tellurite-polymyxin-egg yolk-agar (TPEY)....
GMAC, a modified version of Sorbitol MacConkey medium (SMAC), was produced with a reduced quantity of selective agents and incorporated gentiobiose. GMAC supported a higher recovery rate of heat- or acid-injured Escherichia coli O157:H7 cells than SMAC with cefixime and tellurite (CT-SMAC), while differentiating E. coli O157:H7 from sorbitol-nonfermenting Hafnia alvei.
We demonstrate a fibre laser source generating ultrashort pulses tunable in the range 2-2.5 μm. The source is based on a hybrid Er/Tm fiber laser system and microstructured suspended-core tellurite fiber where Raman soliton shifting occurs. Nonlinear soliton dynamics is studied and possibility of tuning beyond 3 μm is shown.
A tellurite resistance determinant, believed to have been cloned from the IncHII plasmid pHH1508a (E. G. Walter, J. H. Weiner, and D. E. Taylor, Gene 101:1-7, 1991), was shown instead to have originated from the chromosome of Escherichia coli K-12. The two genes, tehA and tehB, constitute an operon located in the terminus at approximately 32.3 min.
