A radio frequency (RF) photonic filter is experimentally demonstrated using an optical tapped delay line (TDL) based on an optical frequency comb and a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide as multiplexer. The approach is used to implement RF filters with variable bandwidth, shape, and center-frequency.

An iterative method is proposed for the analysis of the steadystate weight fluctuations in an LMS-type adaptive FIR filter. Without the widely used independence assumption, a power series of the weighterror correlation matrix is derived in terms of the stepsize. Some new effects are observed, e.g., a decrease of the weight fluctuations along the tapped-delay line.

A 3.9 GHz RF-optical subcarrier multiplexed (OSCM) packet transmission system is simulated and experimentally demonstrated. Simulation results show that integration of the RF subsystem will greatly enhance system performance and require less power to be tapped from the fiber for header detection and processing.
