This article reviews adrenal cortical carcinoma (ACC), especially associated synchronous and metachronous malignancies. The authors will discuss the genetic lesions associated with ACC, the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment options. We hope to provide a thorough and updated review of this rare malignancy.
An odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) and a giant cell granuloma (GCG) in the jaws are two well known entities, which have been reviewed extensively. However, the synchronous occurrence of these two lesions is exceptionally rare. We report a case of OKC exhibiting foci of CGC-like lesion.
PURPOSE Although multiple primary colorectal cancer has been recognized as a significant clinical entity, its clinical and pathological features and its prognosis are still controversial. The purpose of this study was to clarify clinical and pathological features of multiple primary colorectal cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS Among 1669 patients who underwent surgery for primary colorectal cance...
conclusions: despite its known shortcomings, like every other diagnostic tool, panoramic radiography can contribute to the early detection of maxillary/mandibular lesions that in turn enable the dentist to devise an appropriate treatment plan. results: cysts were mostly more common in men despite the equal propensity of both genders to benign tumors. in contrast, women showed a higher frequency...
Granular cell tumor (GCT) is a benign tumor of the breast that can mimic, on breast imaging, invasive carcinomas. Biological evolution of mammary GCT is unknown, especially if it is associated with an invasive carcinoma in the same or contralateral breast. This report details the morphological features of these synchronous lesions highlighting their biological characteristics and suggesting an ...
Thyroglossal duct and lingual thyroid ectopic lesions are exceedingly rare synchronous findings. Papillary thyroid carcinoma of these ectopic thyroid sites is well understood but still a rare finding. This case points to some management nuances in regard to ectopic thyroid screening with imaging and also shows the effectiveness of minimally invasive transoral robotic surgery for lingual thyroid.
Granular cell tumors (GCT) are rare and unusual tumors, which are usually benign and asymptomatic. Only 5-10% of cases involve the gastrointestinal tract, most commonly as singular, non-cancerous lesions in the esophagus. We report a rare case of symptomatic, multifocal, synchronous GCT involving the esophagus, stomach, and cecum.
BACKGROUND Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is considered to be a therapeutic and prognostic marker in the management of breast carcinoma (BC), although discordance rates between primary and metastatic or locally recurrent lesions have been reported. METHODS One hundred and forty-eight paraffin-embedded BC tissues from patients of mean age 59.27 (33-96) years and corresponding ...
Synchronous colorectal neoplasias are defined as 2 or more primary tumors identified in the same patient and at the same time. The most voluminous synchronous cancer is called "first primitive" or "index" cancer. The aim of this work is to describe our experience of minimally invasive approach in patients with synchronous colorectal neoplasias.Since January 2001 till December 2009, 557 patients...
Synchronous multifocal tumors often pose a diagnostic challenge for oncologists. The purpose of this study was to determine the clonal origin and metastatic relationship of synchronous multifocal tumors in the hepatobiliary and pancreatic system using multi-omic platforms. DNA samples were extracted from three masses harvested from a 50-year-old Han Chinese male patient who suffered from synchr...
