We investigate the possibility to measure the nonforward gluon distribution function by means of diiractively produced + ? and K + K ? pairs in polarized lepton nucleon scattering. The resulting cross sections are sizable and are dominated by the gluonic contribution. We nd large spin asymmetries, both for + ? and for K + K ? pairs.

The alkali fulleride Rb4C60 has been investigated by studies of the resistance and by Raman spectroscopy under pressures up to 2 GPa and 13 GPa, respectively. Our data show a reversible phase separation into metallic Rb3C60 and Rb6C60 at pressures above 1 GPa. The reversibility indicates that the phase separation primarily occurs on the nanometer length scale. The data explain several puzzling ...

We review the compelling case for establishing a capability to accelerate positrons at Jefferson Lab. The potential appplications range from the study of two-photon exchange and deeplyvirtual Compton scattering to exploiting the charge current weak interaction to probe the flavor structure of hadrons and nuclei. There are also fascinating ideas for using such a capability to discover new physic...

The stimulated Raman scattering signal is often accompanied by unwanted background arising from other pump-probe modalities. We demonstrate an approach to overcome this challenge based on spectral domain modulation, enabled by a compact, cost-effective angle-to-wavelength pulse shaper. The pulse shaper switches between two spectrally narrow windows, which are cut out of a broadband femtosecond ...

Photo-excitation and size-dependent Raman scattering studies on the silicon (Si) nanostructures (NSs) prepared by laser-induced etching are presented here. Asymmetric and red-shifted Raman line-shapes are observed due to photo-excited Fano interaction in the quantum confined nanoparticles. The Fano interaction is observed between photo-excited electronic transitions and discrete phonons in Si N...
