In this retrospective cohort study, patients who had Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia but who lacked signs and symptoms of urinary tract infection due to S. aureus and who did not have an indwelling urinary catheter had a likelihood of S. aureus bacteriuria of 2.5% (2 of 79 patients). Therefore, we strongly question the theory that S. aureus bacteremia causes S. aureus bacteriuria.
conclusions: e. coli herb-resistance plasmid can replicate and be expressed in s. aureus. results: the identified 45 kb herb-resistance plasmid could be transferred from e. coli cp9 isolates to e. coli dh5α. as a consequence e. coli dh5α transconjugant mic increased from 0.0125 g/ml to 0.25 g/ml. the plasmid was easily transferred from e. coli cp9 strain to s. aureus rn450rf with a mean transfe...
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains are now common both in the health care setting and in the community. Active surveillance is critical for MRSA control and prevention. Specimens of patients (200 patients with 1119 specimens) as well as medical staff and hospital setting (1000 specimens) were randomly sampled in a level 2 hospital in Shanghai from September 2011 to Augus...
Incidences of Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA) have risen worldwide prompting a need to better understand routes of human exposure and whether standard bacterial water quality monitoring practices adequately account for this potential threat. Beach water and sand samples were analyzed during summer months for S. aureus, enterococci, and MRSA at three southern Cal...
Staphylococcus aureus is a facultative anaerobic Gram-positive coccal bacterium. S. aureus is the most common species of Staphylococcus to cause staphylococcal infections, which are very common in clinical medicine. Here we report the genome sequence of S. aureus strain LCT-SA112, which was isolated from S. aureus subsp. aureus CGMCC 1.230.
Staphylococcus aureus is a serious foodborne pathogen threatening food safety and public health. Especially the emergence of methicillin-resistant aureus (MRSA) increased difficulty S. aureus treatment. Staphyloxanthin is crucial virulence factor aureus. Blocking staphyloxanthin production could help host immune system counteract invading aureus&n..;.
Staphylococcus aureus carriers with S. aureus bacteremia may have a reduced mortality risk compared to non-carriers. A role for the immune system is suggested. Here, we study in mice the effect of mild S. aureus skin infection prior to endogenous or exogenous S. aureus bacteremia, and evaluate protection in relation to anti-staphylococcal antibody levels. Skin infections once or twice by a clin...
While some studies have defined Staphylococcus aureus based on its clonal complex and resistance pattern, few have explored the relations between the genetic lineages and antibiotic resistance patterns and immune evasion cluster (IEC) genes. Our aim was to investigate the potential relationship between phenotypic and molecular characteristics so as to reveal livestock-associated S. aureus in hu...
The Tigecycline Evaluation and Surveillance Trial is a global surveillance study monitoring the efficacy of tigecycline and comparators against clinically important pathogens. Between 2004 and 2010, 3126 isolates of Staphylococcus aureus were collected from 66 centers in 13 countries in Latin America; of these, 1467 (46.9%) were resistant to methicillin. The main contributors of S. aureus isola...
objective one of the prominent microorganisms in several reports of nosocomial infections is staphylococcus aureus (s. aureus) which is carried by several health care workers (hcw) many times throughout the day. the present investigation was conducted to assess the nasal and hand carriage rate of s. aureus amongst medical personnel of loghman hakim hospital's toxicological intensive care unit (...
