We present a conceptual design for a powerful, high-resolution near-infrared spectrograph for the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT). This instrument, the Giant Magellan Telescope Near-Infrared Spectrograph (GMTNIRS), uses silicon immersion gratings as the primary dispersing elements.
