The aim of the present study was to design an asymmetric membrane capsule, an osmotic pump-based drug delivery system of ethyl cellulose for controlled release of terbutaline sulphate. asymmetric membrane capsules contains pore-forming water soluble additive, sorbitol in different concentrations in the capsule shell membrane, which after coming in contact with water, dissolves, resulting in an ...

Dental caries is a pandemic infectious disease which can affect the quality of life and consumes considerable health care resources. The chewing of xylitol, sorbitol, and even sugar gum has been suggested to reduce caries rates. No clinical study has simultaneously investigated the effectiveness of these gums when compared with a group receiving no chewing gum. A 40-month double-blind cohort st...

Dental caries on population presents a tremendous challenge to the dental profession in population. In the attempt to lower the sugar consumption in population is to exchange the number of sugar sweeteners which manufacture produced for used in foods, drinks and candy with non-sugar sweetener as sorbitol. Sorbitol is effective as non cariogenic substitutes for use in place of glucose. Objective...

The present work investigated the use of sorbitol as a soluble carbon source, in association with cellulose, to produce cellulases and xylanases in submerged cultures of Penicillium echinulatum 9A02S1. Because cellulose is an insoluble carbon source, in cellulase production, there are some problems with rheology and oxygen transfer. The submerged fermentations containing media composed of 0, 0....

HEp-2 cells underwent apoptosis when the cells were incubated in medium containing sorbitol. Infection with herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) prior to the sorbitol treatment suppressed this apoptosis completely, indicating that HSV-1 carries an antiapoptosis gene. In addition, HSV-1 multiplication was restricted in these apoptotic HEp-2 cells.

Cation-exchange resins are used in the management of hyperkalemia, particularly in patients with end-stage renal disease. These resins were associated with gastrointestinal tract lesions, especially sodium polystyrene sulfonate (Kayexalate) mixed with sorbitol. We present a case of colonic necrosis after the administration of calcium polystyrene sulfonate (Kalimate) not suspended in sorbitol.

A new inducible yeast expression vector, pXS7, was constructed by using the promoter and terminator sequences from the Saccharomyces cerevisiae SOR1 gene, which codes for the sorbitol dehydrogenase protein. We cloned the coding sequence of the Saccharomyces YEF3 gene in this vector and demonstrated an increase in YEF3 protein levels when cells were grown in the presence of the sugar sorbitol.

We used hyperosmolar stress to test blastocysts for their biologic and enzymatic responses to culture stress. Embryos mount dose- and time-dependent responses to hyperosmolar stress. Biological responses included slowed cavitation and cell accumulation and increased apoptosis at increasing doses. These responses were preceded by stress-activated protein kinase (SAPK) phosphorylation and nuclear...

Aldose-6-phosphate reductase (alditol 6-phosphate:NADP 1-oxidoreductase) was isolated and characterized from mature apple leaves (Malus domestica cv. Starkrimson). The enzyme was purified 79-fold. The enzyme catalyzed the following reversible reaction: d-glucose 6-phosphate + NADPH + H(+) right arrow over left arrow d-sorbitol 6-phosphate + NADP(+). No activity was detected when NAD(+) was subs...
