Abstract Inspired by the phenomenon of stone-skipping in life, problem continuous water-skipping trans-media vehicles is widely concerned, which characterized multiphase flow-solid coupling, dynamic boundary, liquid surface fragmentation and high impact loads. Based on Moving Particle Semi-implicit numerical method, this paper investigates disc’s motion characteristics variation, focusing influ...
A modified moving particle semi-implicit (MPS) method based on GPU acceleration technique is applied to simulate three-dimensional (3-D) free surface flow by using our in-house solver MPSGPU-SJTU in this work. In order to validate MPSGPU-SJTU solver, 3-D dam break and sloshing, two typical violent flows with large deformation and nonlinear fragmentation of free surface are simulated. For dam br...
We propose a control design scheme that aims to prevent undesirable liquid outpouring and suppress sloshing during the forward and backward tilting phases of the pouring process, for the case of liquid containers carried by manipulators. The proposed scheme combines a partial inverse dynamics controller with a PID controller, tuned with the use of a “metaheuristic” search algorithm. The “metahe...
Numerical analysis of fluid sloshing in tank wagons is amongst essential research ideas that are focused by railway engineers. The free surface of fluid becomes unstable and turns into a dynamic complex non-linear problem for fluid-structure interaction (FSI). In this paper, initially, the dynamic response of the tank, including lateral force analysis and pressure distribution during braking, i...
Vibration absorbers are employed for both structural safety and comfort reasons. This paper explores a novel absorber which uses the sloshing of granular particles to dissipate energy in a rolling container. Some of the parameters which affect energy dissipation have been experimentally studied. Detailed description of one experiment is given. Further work involves numerical exploration.
Abstract Many industrial applications require the displacement of liquid-filled containers on planar paths (namely, a horizontal plane), by means linear transport systems or serial robots. The movement liquid inside container, known as sloshing , is usually undesired, thus there necessity to keep under control peaks that free-surface exhibits during motion. This paper aims at validating model f...
We present a method for charge mixing in self-consistent density functional calculations which uses the Thomas-Fermi-von Weizsäcker equation to solve implicitly for the charge density response function to the potential. This approach has significant improvements over existing methods, particularly for inhomogeneous systems with large unit cells which commonly suffer from poor convergence due to...
