Based on a cladistic biogeographic analysis of 6 species-level phylogenies of harvestman taxa, we searched for congruence in the historical relationships of 12 areas of endemism of the Brazilian Atlantic Rain Forest. We constructed general area cladograms using Primary Brooks Parsimony Analysis (BPA), BPA of nodes, and paralogy-free subtree analysis. These analyses resulted in 6 general area cl...

Groundwater is closely coupled with stream flow to maintain water supply to riparian vegetation, parti cularly where precipitation is seasonal. A case study is presented where Mediterranean climate and groundwater extraction are linked with the decline of riparian vegeta tion and subsequent severe bank erosion on the Carmel River in Carmel Valley, California.

The results of the retrospective global radioactive contamination mapping of the Enisey-river catchment are presented. The maps of spatial , J 7 Cs distributions of 1964, 1974, 1986, 2000 are compiled using the geoinformation technologies in the Institute of Global Climate and Ecology. The territory of mapping is 2600000 km. The mapping is done from the airbome-gamma-spectrum data obtained at t...

We describe a new lizard species of the genus Potamites from the montane forests of the Cordillera de Vilcabamba (Cusco region) and Apurimac River valley (Ayacucho region), between 1500 and 2000 meters of elevation, in southern Peru. The new species is distinguishable from all other species of the genus mainly by having highly keeled scattered scales on dorsum and females lacking femoral pores.
