Surface registration is a fundamental problem in computer graphics and computer-aided design. The consists finding deformation from one surface to another that preserves some properties. For instance, our inverse engineering context, we aim at the best, as isometric possible, map between an input triangular model, large point cloud acquired on actual mechanical part being processed. Existing so...

In this paper, we propose a new similarity measure to combine multiple views of 3-D objects for non-rigid registration. It is a metric that integrates multiple 2-D view features representing a visual identity of a 3-D object seen from different viewpoints. The robustness to non-rigid distortions is achieved by the proximity correspondence manner. The human face, a typical non-rigid object, was ...

In this paper we consider representation issues of rigid body transformations based on geometric properties of reflected correspondence vectors. A sufficient and necessary representation of rigid body transformations is put forward followed by an accurate and robust algorithm for the registration of free-form surfaces. The algorithm makes full use of global rigid motion constraints derived from...

Background: [F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose ([F]FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) is a valuable tool for monitoring response to therapy in oncology. In longitudinal studies, however, patients are not scanned in exactly the same position. Rigid and non-rigid image registration can be applied in order to reuse baseline volumes of interest (VOI) on consecutive studies of the same patient. The pu...

Medical image registration tasks of large volume datasets, especially in the non-rigid case, often put a heavy burden on computing resources. GPUs are a promising new approach to address computational intensive image processing tasks. We investigate recently introduced GPU hardware features that accelerate 2D and 3D rigid and nonrigid registration tasks. Our implementation is entirely GPU based.

The extraordinary improvements of modern imaging devices offer access to data with unprecedented information content. However, widely used image processing methodologies fall far short of exploiting the full breadth of information offered by numerous types of scanning probe, optical, and electron microscopies. In many applications, it is necessary to keep measurement intensities below a desired...

Voxel based non-rigid registration of images involves finding a similarity maximising transformation that deforms a source image to the coordinate system of a target image. In order to do this, interpolation is required to estimate the source intensity values corresponding to transformed target voxels. These interpolated source intensities are used when calculating the similarity measure being ...

Similarity measures for non-rigid multimodal registration are required to be local in order to enable correction of small image differences, and multimodal, to allow images to be acquired using different imaging techniques. Unfortunately all commonly used multimodal similarity measures are inherently global and cannot be directly used to estimate local image properties. We have derived a local ...

In this paper we propose a new method for pairwise rigid point set registration. We pay special attention to noise robustness, outlier resistance and global optimal alignment. The problem of registering two point clouds in space is converted to a minimization of a nonlinear cost function. We propose a cost function that aims to reduce the impact of noise and outliers. Its definition is based on...
