The paper presents recent PHENIX results for the nuclear modification factor R AA in Au + Au Collisions at √ s N N = 200 GeV for the electrons originating from semi-leptonic decays of open heavy flavor carrying particles. We also report the results of the azimuthal asymmetry (v 2) measurement for those electrons, which is directly related to the heavy quark elliptic flow.
Unlike stimulus-response compatibility, which has been explored for aging effects, the motor behavior issue of response-response (R-R) compatibility has not been addressed in the gerontological literature. R-R compatibility refers to the ease with which two responses can be prepared together either simultaneously or as choice alternatives. In the present study, young, middleaged, and elderly ad...
Calculations of the nuclear modification factor, R dAu , for π 0 production in dAu collisions at √ s = 200 AGeV are presented. The applied pQCD-improved parton model incorporates intrinsic k T. Nuclear multiscattering and nuclear shadowing are considered in the Au nucleus. Theoretical results are displayed for midrapidity and high pseudo-rapidity (η), and compared to preliminary PHENIX and BRAH...
We considered, in general form for a 22 full factorial experiment, linear approximations of the organism's dose-response relationship for some factors operating alone and modification of this relationship by another factor operating in the background. A typological classification of such modifications is suggested. An analysis of the outcomes obtained in a number of subchronic animal experiment...
Although historically viewed as purely harmful, recent evidence suggests that reactive oxygen species (ROS) function as important physiological regulators of intracellular signaling pathways. The specific effects of ROS are modulated in large part through the covalent modification of specific cysteine residues found within redox-sensitive target proteins. Oxidation of these specific and reactiv...
In response to genotoxic stress, the PIDD protein promotes apoptosis downstream of the tumor-suppressor protein p53. In this issue of Cell, Janssens et al. (2005) demonstrate that, in response to such stress, PIDD forms a nuclear complex that enhances sumoylation of NEMO. This modification is important for the activation of the antiapoptotic transcription factor NF-kappaB.
