We evaluated the performance of the ChromID MRSA/ChromID S. aureus biplate for the simultaneous detection of Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) in preoperative screening samples. The sensitivity and specificity were 94.2% and 93.6%, respectively, for the S. aureus compartment and 92.9% and 99.7% for the MRSA compartment after 48 h incubation.

Background and purpose: Clindamycin is used in treatment of common infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Constitutive or inducible resistance of clindamycin are important factors in choosing that as an effective antibiotic. The aims of this study were to determine inducible resistance clindamycin and analysis of multiple antibiotic resistance profile in clinic...

OBJECTIVE To determine the frequency of Methicillin resistance Staphylococcus aureus infection in major cities of Pakistan. SETTING Various laboratories of the country with one as the central Laboratory. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seven hundred and ninety two consecutive clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus were collected from 8 laboratories all over Pakistan i.e. Karachi, Peshawar, Lahore...

A total of 3,051 methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) isolates and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) isolates in Europe were compared. MRSA isolates constituted 25% of all isolates and were more prevalent in southern Europe. MRSA isolates appeared to be more prevalent in intensive care units than in outpatient departments. Only a small minority of MSSA isolates were multidr...

ST239-MRSA-SCCmec III (ST239, sequence type 239; MRSA, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus; SCCmec III, staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec type III) is the most predominant clone of hospital-acquired methicillin-resistant S. aureus in mainland China. We report here the complete genome sequence of XN108, the first vancomycin-intermediate S. aureus strain isolated from a steam-burned ...

Nosocomial infection is a major problem in the world today. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains, usually resistant to several antibiotics, shows a particular ability to spread in hospitals and is now present in most of the countries. The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of MRSA infections and their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern in our hospit...

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) continues to be a major problem, causing severe and intractable infections worldwide. MRSA is resistant to all beta-lactam antibiotics, and alternative treatments are limited. A very limited number of new antibiotics have been discovered over the last half-century, novel agents for the treatment of MRSA infections are urgently needed. Marinopyr...

background: methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (mrsa) is resistant to most antibiotics and is an important pathogen of nosocomial infections. the prevalence of community (ca-mrsa) and hospital acquired methicillin-resistant s. aureus (ha-mrsa) infection is increased. in this study we investigated the frequency of mrsa colonization and its antibiotic susceptibility in students of rafsan...

Background & Aims: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common pathogens in nosocomial infections. Vancomycin is the most important therapeutic drug of choice for treatment of infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains. Therefore, vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) or vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (VISA) strains are warning...
