A model of the liquid crystal director orientation was combined with a non-sequential ray tracing program to compute the reflected intensity from a LCOS device for a rear projection TV system. The performance of the LCOS display was characterised by computing the contrast ratio over a realistic viewing cone.

A new technique is presented for accelerating the fast multipole method, allowing rapid solution of surface integral equations for wave scattering problems. A non-nested, ray propagation approach is used to compute a matrix-vector multiply in O(N 4=3) operations, where N is the number of unknowns in the discretized integral equation.

In many important applications of multidimensional DFTs, such as x-ray crystallography, the input/output data contains symmetries. This work gives support to some new and promising ideas proposed by Seguel to compute the fast Fourier Transform for data endowed with symmetries. Sequential experiments have been done and we expect to write parallel programs to explore our ideas.
