We characterized indigenous common bean rhizobia from five districts of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The isolates were trapped by two common bean varieties, the Mineiro Precoce (Andean origin) and Ouro Negro (Mesoamerican origin). Analysis by BOX-PCR of selected isolates detected a high level of genetic diversity.

Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum Schltdl. f.sp. phaseoli (Fop), is one of the important diseases of the common bean in Iran and many of the bean growing countries. Incidence of the disease has been reported in tropical and semi-tropical regions of the world. This study was carried out to characterize genetic diversity of F. oxysporum isolates from the common bean by vegetative compati...

Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars actually released in Brazil have to present a high spectrum of disease resistance, which is nationwide one of the main causes for the low productivity of this crop. This is especially true for small farms with low-technology plantations, but which play an important role; altogether, they account for the greatest fraction of the product for the domes...

The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is the world's most important legume for human consumption. Anthracnose (ANT; Colletotrichum lindemuthianum) and angular leaf spot (ALS; Pseudocercospora griseola) are complex diseases that cause major yield losses in common bean. Depending on the cultivar and environmental conditions, anthracnose and angular leaf spot infections can reduce crop yield dra...

BACKGROUND The genus Colletotrichum is one of the most economically important plant pathogens, causing anthracnose on a wide range of crops including common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). Crop yield can be dramatically decreased depending on the plant cultivar used and the environmental conditions. This study aimed to identify potential genetic components of the bean immune system to provide en...
