Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) method is an advanced, computation intensive PWM method and possibly the best among all the PWM techniques for variable frequency drive applications. The SVPWM is an alternative method for the determination of switching pulse width and their position. The major advantage of SVPWM stem from the fact that, there is a degree of freedom of space vector pl...

The reversal of the magnetization under the influence of a field pulse has been previously predicted to be an incoherent process with several competing phenomena such as domain wall relaxation, spin wave-mediated instability regions, and vortex-core mediated reversal dynamics. However, there has been no study on the direct observation of the switching process with the aid of a microwave signal ...

Simultaneous mode locking and Q switching is accomplished in a diode-pumped Nd:YVO(4)/GaAs laser. The average output power is ~2.0 W at 10.6-W absorbed pump power, and the repetition rate of the Q-switched pulse is ~120 kHz. The mode-locked pulse inside the Q-switched pulse has a repetition rate of ~148 MHz, and its average duration is estimated to be ~100 ps.

This paper analyzes the way to increase the energy efficiency of three phase converters applied to control AC motor drives, through the reduction of the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the output voltage and the reduction in the switching losses in the PWM inverter. The aim is to develop a system which selects the most adequate modulation technique required to simultaneously optimize the har...

A 1314 nm two-crystal Nd:YLF laser was designed and operated in both CW and actively Q-switched modes. Maximum CW output of 26.5 W resulted from 125 W of combined incident pump power. Active Q-switching was obtained by inserting a Brewster-cut acousto optic modulator. This setup delivered an average power of 18.6 W, with a maximum of 5.6 mJ energy per pulse with a pulse duration of 36 ns at a p...

This paper reports on the results of research into passively modelocked fiber laser with a record-setting optical length of the resonant cavity amounting to 3.8 km. Significant elongation of the laser resonator led to more than two orders of magnitude increase in the output pulse energy at the same pump radiation power. At ultra-low (for mode-locked lasers) pulse repetition rate (77 kHz) and pu...

Picosecond pulse propagation through a field-enhanced waveguide bulk semiconductor saturable absorber is studied numerically. Fast switching from unsaturated absorption to delayed strong saturation and gain, as well as the predicted dependence of saturation energy on electric field, is based on intraband carrier kinetics and electric-field dynamics in the absorber and can lead to improved, cont...

Two solid-state bipolar Marx modulators are compared in terms of semiconductors overvoltage tolerance capability in abnormal operating conditions such as switching synchronization failure. Simulation results are presented for 4 stages of two Marx circuits using 500 V per stage with 1 kHz bipolar pulse repetition rate, with 5 μs pulse width and 10 μs relaxation time into resistive load.

This paper deals with the simulation of a unified series-shunt compensator (USSC) aimed at examining its capability in improving power quality in a power distribution systems. The USSC simulation model comprises of two 12-pulse inverters which are connected in series and in shunt to the system. A generalized sinusoidal pulse width modulation switching technique is
