Campylobacter jejuni is a leading cause of bacterial food poisoning in humans. Due to the rise in antibiotic-resistant Campylobacter, there exists a need to develop antibiotic-independent interventions to control infections in humans. Here, we evaluated the impact of Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (EcN), a probiotic strain, on C. jejuni's invasion and intracellular survival in polarized human col...

How populations that inhabit the same geographical area become genetically differentiated is not clear. To investigate this, we characterized phenotypic and genetic differences between two populations of Saccharomyces cerevisiae that in some cases inhabit the same environment but show relatively little gene flow. We profiled stress sensitivity in a group of vineyard isolates and a group of oak-...

We have studied the voltage fluctuations of current-biased, micron-scale magnetic tunnel junctions. We find that the spectral power density is 1/f -like at low frequencies and becomes frequency independent at high frequencies. The frequency-independent background noise is due to Johnson-Nyquist noise and shot noise mechanisms. The nature of the 1/f noise has its origin in two different mechanis...

We report on tunnelling magnetoresistance (TMR), current–voltage (IV) characteristics and low-frequency noise in epitaxially grown Fe(1 1 0)/MgO(1 1 1)/Fe(1 1 0) magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) with dimensions from 2 2 to 20 20mm. The evaluated MgO energy barrier (0.5070.08 eV), the barrier width (13.170.5 Å) as well as the resistance times area product (771MOmm) show relatively small variatio...

Side-channel attacks are an important class of attacks against cryptographic devices and profiled side-channel attacks are the most powerful type of side-channel attacks. In this scenario, an adversary first uses a device under his control in order to build a good leakage model. Then, he takes advantage of this leakage model to exploit the actual leakages of a similar target device and perform ...

Since many tools for model-driven engineering (MDE) can only process consistent models, the consistency must be guaranteed by all tools which modify models, such as model editors, transformers, merge tools, etc. This is a recurring challenge for tool developers. An obvious solution of this challenge is to use a common library of consistency-preserving edit operations for modifying models. Typic...

Abstract Animals rely on both personal and social information about danger to minimize risk, yet environmental conditions constrain information. Both visual obstructions background noise can reduce detectability of predators, which may increase reliance information, such as from alarm calls. Furthermore, a combination auditory constraints might greatly because the loss one source cannot be comp...
