multi-environment trials play a significant role in selecting the best cultivars to be used at different locations. the objective of this study was to identify grain and forage yields stability of grass pea advanced lines across different locations. the 14 advanced lines of grass pea, developed by the international center for agricultural research in dry areas (icarda), were tested at three dif...
We report results on a model of two coupled oscillators that undergo periodic parametric modulations with a phase difference θ. Being to a large extent analytically solvable, the model reveals a rich θ dependence of the regions of parametric resonance. In particular, the intuitive notion that anti-phase modulations are less prone to parametric resonance is confirmed for sufficiently large coupl...
We present an exact analytic solution to the neutrino evolution equation in matter with periodic step-function density profile and discuss in detail the parametric resonance of neutrino oscillations that can occur in such a system. Solar and atmospheric neutrinos traversing the earth pass through layers of alternating density and can therefore experience parametric resonance of their oscillatio...
We develop a non-parametric method to monitor several process variables simultaneously. This method is based on the concept of data depth, which indicates the position of an observation with respect to the data cloud. Principal components are used to reduce the dimensionality of the process, and a non-parametric chart is used to monitor some of the principal components instead of the original v...
Abstract. We study the effects of periodically time varying mass on the stability of the Helmholtz oscillator, which, when linearised, takes the form of Ince’s equation and exhibits parametric resonance. The resonance regions in the parameter space are mapped and we use the Melnikov function to demonstrate that the parametric instability does not affect the qualitative dynamics of the nonlinear...
We explore the potential impact of colored noise on space-charge-induced halo formation. By coupling particle orbits to parametric resonance, colored noise due to space-charge fluctuations and/or imperfections in the beamline can eject particles to much larger amplitudes than would be inferred from parametric resonance alone.
The phenomenon of parametric resonance in a linear system arising from a periodic modulation of its parameter is investigated both analytically and with the help of a computer simulation based on the educational software package PHYSICS OF OSCILLATIONS (see in the web http://www.aip.org/pas). The simulation experiments aid greatly an understanding of basic principles and peculiarities of parame...
