Cigarette smoking is epidomiologically related to lung cancer (17, 33-35), but'the mechanisms involved in the production of these carcinomas have not been delineated. One hypothesis is that malignant transformation may be initiated by exposure of the bronchial epithelium to aro matic polycyclic hydrocarbons such as BP4 and BA (which are present in cigarette smoke and are capable of inducing mal...

Formation of adamantane hydrocarbons and their confinement in SAPO-34 caused the long induction period and the quick catalyst deactivation in methanol conversion. Via ship-in-a-bottle synthesis, adamantane and methyladamantanes could be produced from methanol conversion in the cage of 8-ring SAPO catalysts under very mild reaction conditions.

The crystal and molecular structures of two isomeric inhibitors of carcinogenesis by certain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are described. The two compounds are 7,8-benzoflavone and 5,6-benzoflavone, which are shown by X-ray crystallographic studies to differ appreciably in their three-dimensional structures. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are metabolically activated by an enzyme system tha...

a few people, however, who recognize a need to use the system but, for reasons of their own, choose to have a search intermediary do it for them or at least work with them on a graphical search session. At this point, therefore, it appears that the role of the search specialist has evolved away from searches originated by individual users (except in a few cases) who now can and should run their...

The administration of various polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons to rats markedly increases the activity of several liver enzyme systems that metabolize certain drugs and other foreign compounds (14). The enzymes which respond to hydrocarbon administration belong to a group of microsomal enzymes that require reduced triphosphopyridine nucleotide for activity. Preliminary observations have suggest...

Microbiological analyses of sediments located near a point source for petrogenic chemicals resulted in the isolation of a pyrene-mineralizing bacterium. This isolate was identified as a Mycobacterium sp. on the basis of its cellular and colony morphology, gram-positive and strong acid-fast reactions, diagnostic biochemical tests, 66.6% G + C content of the DNA, and high-molecular-weight mycolic...

A generic approach to the regiospecific synthesis of halogenated polycyclic aromatics is made possible by the one- or two-directional benzannulation reactions of readily available (ortho-allylaryl)trichloroacetates (the "BHQ" reaction). Palladium-catalysed cross-coupling reactions of the so-formed haloaromatics enable the synthesis of functionalised polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with ...

The Polarographie reduction of a series carcinogenic and noncarcinogonic polycyclic nitrogen compounds in anhydrous dimetbylsulfoxidc containing tetrabuthylammonium Perchlorate as supporting electrolyte has been studied. The obtained results were compared with the number or with the position of nitrogen atoms in the molecules and with their carcinogenic activity. The values of half-waves potent...
