We identified two novel mouse mutants with abnormal head-shaking behavior and neural tube defects during the course of independent ENU mutagenesis experiments. The heterozygous and homozygous mutants exhibit defects in the orientation of sensory hair cells in the organ of Corti, indicating a defect in planar cell polarity. The homozygous mutants exhibit severe neural tube defects as a result of...

To maintain tissue architecture, epithelial cells divide in a planar fashion, perpendicular to their main polarity axis. As the centrosome resumes an apical localization in interphase, planar spindle orientation is reset at each cell cycle. We used three-dimensional live imaging of GFP-labeled centrosomes to investigate the dynamics of spindle orientation in chick neuroepithelial cells. The mit...

Considering the network structure is one of the new approaches in studying stochastic PERT networks (SPN). In this paper, planar networks are studied as a special class of networks. Two structural reducible mechanisms titled arc contraction and deletion are developed to convert any planar network to a series-parallel network structure. In series-parallel SPN, the completion time distribution f...

Tissue elongation and its control by spatiotemporal signals is a major developmental question. Currently, it is thought that Drosophila ovarian follicular epithelium elongation requires the planar polarization of the basal domain cytoskeleton and of the extra-cellular matrix, associated with a dynamic process of rotation around the anteroposterior axis. Here we show, by careful kinetic analysis...

To understand the mechanism behind the pitch change during the transient planar to the planar state transition of a cholesteric liquid crystal ͑while it is relaxing from the homeotropic state to the planar state͒, we studied a more controlled situation of pitch change in a thermochromic liquid crystal. We studied the pitch change in the liquid crystal, as a function of temperature, under various ...

AA3004 alloy is widely used in can making. The major concern in the production of canbodies is earing, which develop by high planar anisotropy of rolled sheet. Balance ofrecrystallisation and rolling textures together with a uniform and fine grain microstructure canminimize the earing. The effects of finish rolling temperature (FRT) on planar anisotropy, microstructure, texture development and m...

Epithelial cells are polarized within the apico-basal and planar axes. The latter - planar cell polarity - requires long-range regulation of orientation as well as short-range, cell-to-cell realignment through feedback loops. New insights into the long-range, gradient-type regulation reveal how a kinase translates the morphogen gradient input into cellular orientation.

It is estimated that up to 20% of all types of human cancers worldwide are attributed to viruses. The genome of oncogenic viruses carries genes that have protein products that act as oncoproteins in cell proliferation and transformation. The modulation of cell cycle control mechanisms, cellular regulatory and signaling pathways by oncogenic viruses, plays an important role in viral carcinogenes...
