A case is presented in which a histologically proven prolactin secreting pituitary macroadenoma was associated with a large suprasellar craniopharyngioma. The pre-operative prolactin concentration was 8180 mU/l. Although hyperprolactinaemia up to 3000 mU/l in patients with a craniopharyngioma is usually due to stalk compression, greater values may indicate an associated prolactinoma.

Introduction: Pituitary adenomas are benign tumours which arise within the anterior lobe (adenohypophysis) of the gland in the sella turcica. Lateral extension into the cavernous sinuses can result in involvement of intracavernous part of 3rd, 4th and 6th cranial nerves resulting in superior orbital fissure syndrome. Case Report: We report a case of pituitary macroadenomas in which the involvem...

Pituitary macroadenomas are the most common suprasellar lesions in adults and are typically managed surgically through transsphenoidal resection when symptomatic. Due to their close proximity to the optic chiasm, pituitary macroadenomas often present with signs of bitemporal hemianopsia. Alternatively, these tumors can cause mass effect, thus presenting with signs of elevated intracranial press...

Cushing's disease appears as a functionally heterogeneous disease, but criteria that are able to distinguish between different clinical forms remain elusive. We compared two subgroups of patients with proven Cushing's disease according to the size of the pituitary adenoma, evaluated by computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging. Our series comprised 11 patients with a microadenoma and 10...

A 29-year-old male patient with a functioning pituitary macroadenoma is discussed. The pituitary mass was detected by MRI after the patient presented with sudden onset of headache, suggestive of an apoplectic event. The headache resolved with analgesic medications. Within a follow-up period of one week, the pituitary mass had spontaneously regressed to nearly half its original size without any ...
