We report the realization of a light source specifically designed for the generation of bright continuousvariable entangled beams and for Heisenberg-limited inteferometry. The source is a nondegenerate, singlemode, continuous-wave optical parametric oscillator in Na:KTP, operated at frequency degeneracy and just above threshold, which is also of interest for the study of critical fluctuations a...

We show that an optical parametric oscillator based on three concurrent 2 nonlinearities can produce, above threshold, bright output beams of macroscopic intensities which exhibit strong tripartite continuousvariable entanglement. We also show that there are two ways that the system can exhibit a three-mode form of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox, and calculate the extracavity fluctuation s...

We propose a novel scheme for continuous-wave pumped optical parametric oscillation (OPO) inside silicon micro-resonators. The proposed scheme not only requires a relative low lasing threshold, but also exhibits extremely broad tunability extending from the telecom band to mid infrared.

A new theory of thermal history after inflation is outlined by taking into account the effect of parametric resonance caused by inflaton oscillation. A typical outcome is existence of a high temperature phase, that makes possible GUT baryogenesis consistently with low enough gravitino abundance.

We report on a detailed experimental investigation of interbranch parametric scattering processes in onedimensional semiconductor microcavities. Band dispersion and corresponding far field emission patterns are studied by polarization resolved and power dependence measurements under resonant and non-resonant excitation at normal incidence. We demonstrate the realization of optical parametric os...

Optical parametric amplification controlled by the auxiliary electromagnetic field enables transparency, amplification, and oscillation with no cavity in strongly absorbing negative-index metamaterials. The opposite directions of the wave vector and the Poynting vector in such materials result in extraordinary optical properties, including "backward" phase matching and the generation of entangl...

We demonstrate a novel technique for direct measurement of the oscillation frequency in an optical-tweezers trap. The technique uses the phenomenon of parametric resonance in an oscillator when the stiffness of the trapping potential is modulated. The trapped particle is a strongly damped oscillator; hence, the signature of parametric resonance is not an increase in the amplitude but an increas...

We report the experimental realization of a new type of optical parametric oscillator in which oscillation is achieved by polarization rotation in a linear retarder, followed by nonlinear polarization mixing. The mixing is performed by a type II degenerate parametric downconversion in a periodically poled KTP crystal pumped by a 1064 nm pulsed Nd:YAG pump. A single, linearly polarized beam, pre...

We report a quasi-phase-matched optical parametric oscillator, using bulk periodically poled LiNbO(3). The optical parametric oscillator, pumped by a 1.064-microm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, was temperature tuned over the wavelength range 1.66-2.95 microm. The oscillation threshold of approximately 0.1 mJ was more than a factor of 10 below the damage limit. The LiNbO(3) crystal, fabricated by appl...

The frequency-tuning and -control properties of monolithic doubly resonant optical parametric oscillators are analyzed for stable single-mode pump radiation. Single-axial-mode operation is observed on the idler and the signal for both pulsed and continuous pumping. Projections are made for tuning-parameter tolerances that are required for maintenance of stable single-frequency oscillation. Cont...
