The dynamic instability of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT), double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNT) and triple-walled carbon nanotubes (TWCNT) embedded in an elastic medium under combined static and periodic axial loads are investigated using Floquet–Lyapunov theory. An elastic multiple-beam model is utilized where the nested slender nanotubes are coupled with each other through the van d...

There are several means to measure the oxidation of edible oils, such as the acid value, the peroxide value, and the anisidine value. However, these means require large quantities of reagents and are time-consuming tasks. Therefore, a more convenient and time-saving way to measure the oxidation of edible oils is required. In this report, an edible oil condition sensor was fabricated by using si...

Single walled carbon nanotube shows excellent chemical and physical properties and it has been extensively explored for novel applications. It has been shown that single walled carbon nanotube can be used to improve sensitivity of sensors such as bio sensors, gas sensors and mechanicals sensor by its unique properties. As a mechanical sensor, a mechanical force deforms the single walled carbon ...

single-walled carbon nanotubes (swcnt) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes(mwcnt) were melt-blended with polyvinylidene fluoride (pvdf).ft-ir technique revealed that swcnt has insignificant effect on the crystalline structure of pvdf and at 3wt% modification only 14% beta crystal isformed. this observation was accounted for by the chair structure of swcnt. in mwcnt nancomposites it was found that...

Self-catalytic behavior of multi-walled carbon nanotubes is proposed and validated experimentally under the conditions in which metal catalysis was previously figured to work only. The self-catalysis could support the nanotube nucleation and radial and axial developing processes. This result should lead to a new and better understanding of the growth mechanism of carbon nanotubes in a metal cat...

A novel and simple method to prepare well dispersed single-walled carbon nanotubes with strong visible fluorescence in water is reported. The visible fluorescence was found to be responsive to pH value and metal ions, and tunable emission ability of oxidized SWCNTs depending on the excitation wavelength and a novel self-excitation and emission process were found.

Catalysts play a pivotal role in modern industries, especially in the petrochemical industry, such as in the processes for production of advanced materials such as carbon nanotubes. Since the discovery by Iijima in 1991, carbon nanotube has received increasing interest worldwide owing to their unique structural, electronic and mechanical properties [1], and their promising applications in molec...

In this work, we probed the effects of shear flow on the alignment of dispersed single-walled carbon nanotubes in polymer solutions. Two different systems were compared: Single-walled carbon nanotubes dispersed using an anionic surfactant and single-walled carbon nanotubes dispersed using an anionic surfactant and a weakly binding polymer. It was determined that the addition of the weakly bindi...

This communication describes a simple solvent-free method for fabricating chemoresistive gas sensors on the surface of paper. The method involves mechanical abrasion of compressed powders of sensing materials on the fibers of cellulose. We illustrate this approach by depositing conductive layers of several forms of carbon (e.g., single-walled carbon nanotubes [SWCNTs], multi-walled carbon nanot...
