BACKGROUND Peri-implant disease following successful integration of an endosseous implant is the result of an imbalance between bacterial load and host defense, which may affect not only the peri-implant mucosa but also involve the supporting bone. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the adjunctive effect of a dental water jet rinse mixed with chlorhexidine gel to the nonsurgical...

Histologic evaluation of a single immediately loaded titanium provisional implant that was in function for 18 months revealed 81.3% bone-to-implant contact of the surface evaluated, whereas 9.6% of the implant surface evaluated was opposed by marrow and 9.1% by connective tissue. The bone appeared to be in active remodeling stage and in close contact with the implant surface.

For dental implants, it is vital that an initial soft tissue seal is achieved as this helps to stabilize and preserve the peri-implant tissues during the restorative stages following placement. The study of the implant-soft tissue interface is usually undertaken in animal models. We have developed an in vitro three-dimensional tissue-engineered oral mucosal model (3D OMM), which lends itself to...

PURPOSE Computer-aided oral implant surgery offers several advantages over the traditional approach. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the in vivo accuracy of computer-aided, template-guided oral implant surgery by comparing the three-dimensional positions of planned and placed implants. MATERIALS AND METHODS Oral implant therapy was performed in two treatment centers on eligible pati...

The study of dental implant surfaces is relevant in order to better understand the interaction of the titanium surface and the surrounding tissues. Clinical success is achieved not only because of implant material but also because of other properties as implant design, surface treatment and quality. In this work, we report a detailed surface investigation of three major Brazilian made implants ...

Oral rehabilitation with osseointegrated implants is a way to restore esthetics and masticatory function in edentulous patients, but bacterial colonization around the implants may lead to mucositis or peri-implantitis and consequent implant loss. Peri-implantitis is the main complication of oral rehabilitation with dental implants and, therefore, it is necessary to take into account the potenti...

The purposes of the study are to study the implant survival of the wide-diameter implant and to analyze if the length, the implant surface, or the placement location has any effect on its survival. Electronic databases were searched from inception to Dec 2014. Studies included in the review had implants placed in areas of adequate bone width and had clear inclusion and exclusion criteria for pa...
