Recently, Al-Baali (2014) has extended the damped-technique in the modified BFGS method of Powell (1978) for Lagrange constrained optimization functions to the Broyden family of quasi-Newton methods for unconstrained optimization. Appropriate choices for the damped-parameter, which maintain the global and superlinear convergence property of these methods on convex functions and correct the Hess...

2 Duality, central trajectories and We develop an interior-point technique for soiving quadratic dynamical systems programming problem in a Hilbert space. As an example we consider an application of these results to the linear-quadratic control problem with linear inequality constraints. It is shown that the Newton step in this situation is basically reduced to solving the standard linear-quadra...

This paper considers the localizaton and navigation of a mobile robot. The control strategy is based on a nonlinear model predictive control technique that utilizes the Newton method. The robot localization is obtained using information from odometric and ultrasonic sensors through a Kalman Filter. Simulation and experimental results illustrate the efficacy of the proposed method. 2003 IEEE Int...

Moreau-Yosida based approximation techniques for optimal control of variational inequalities are investigated. Properties of the path generated by solutions to the regularized equations are analyzed. Combined with a semi-smooth Newton method for the regularized problems these lead to an efficient numerical technique.

Newton potential for DGP brane-world scenario is examined when the extra dimension is semi-infinite. The final form of the potential involves a self-adjoint extension parameter α, which plays a role of an additional mass (or distance) scale. The striking feature of Newton potential in this setup is that the potential behaves as seven-dimensional in long range when α is nonzero. For small α ther...

A numerical technique for solving the classical brachistochrone problem in the calculus of variations is presented. The brachistochrone problem is first formulated as a nonlinear optimal control problem. Application of this method results in the transformation of differential and integral expressions into some algebraic equations to which Newton-type methods can be applied. The method is genera...

Background: Infertility effects on psychological and emotional tension in couples and make severe stress in infertile men and women. Relaxation technique is one of the methods which reduce stress and balance human emotions. The purpose of this study was determination of relaxation effect on stress score in the infertile women and pregnancy test as outcome of their treatment. Materials and Metho...

In this paper, we present a full Newton step feasible interior-pointmethod for circular cone optimization by using Euclidean Jordanalgebra. The search direction is based on the Nesterov-Todd scalingscheme, and only full-Newton step is used at each iteration.Furthermore, we derive the iteration bound that coincides with thecurrently best known iteration bound for small-update methods.

We develop and test a thermally activated state transition technique for ultraweak force measurement. As a force sensor, the technique was demonstrated on a classical Brownian bead immersed in water and restrained by a bistable optical trap. A femto-Newton-level flow force imposed on this sensor was measured by monitoring changes in the transition rates of the bead hopping between two energy st...

A procedure is described for estimating an optimum kernel for the detection by convolution of signals among Poissonian noise. The technique is applied to the detection of x-ray point sources in XMM-Newton data, and is shown to yield an improvement in detection sensitivity of up to 60% over the sliding-box method used in the creation of the 1XMM catalog.
