PURPOSES We retrospectively assessed our experience with the W-shaped orthotopic ileal pouch, which was constructed with non-absorbable titanium staples. For these purpose, we discuss the results of bladder capacity, urinary continence and early and long-term postoperative complications. MATERIALS AND METHODS We included in the study 17 patients who underwent radical cystoprostatectomy follow...
PURPOSE The aim of the present study was to determine the diagnostic accuracy of conventional and ambulatory urodynamic studies (UDS) in estimating neobladder function. METHODS We evaluated 32 patients who underwent radical cystectomy and orthotopic Hautmann W neobladder with Abol-Enein-Ghoneim uretero-intestinal anastomosis for bladder cancer. The patients were initially examined by using bo...
tau.amegroups.com © Translational Andrology and Urology. All rights reserved. Robot assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) and totally intracorporeal neobladder (ICNB) reconstruction remains a challenge. Despite the potential advantages of RARC, which include decreased blood loss, quicker return to bowel function, reduced analgesic requirements and decreased wound complications (1); ICNB reconstruc...
The author presents a prototype of a disposable device that enables, in one single movement, the passing of all suture stitches in the urethral stump that will be anastomosed to the bladder or to a neobladder, with the advantage of a regular distribution of these stitches around the urethral circumference. In tests with animals, the device showed to be easily applicable, effective and safe.
Bladder cancer is a common type of genitourinary cancer, and radical cystectomy with urinary diversion is considered to be the most effective local treatment for invasive bladder cancer. In order to assess the functional results and health-related quality of life (QOL) in bladder cancer patients with an orthotopic neobladder, and to provide a reasonable basis for the evaluation of urinary diver...
CONTEXT The urinary reconstructive options available after radical cystectomy (RC) for bladder cancer are discussed, as are the criteria for selection of the most appropriate diversion, and the outcomes and complications associated with different diversion options. OBJECTIVE To critically review the peer-reviewed literature on the function and oncological outcomes, complications, and factors ...
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the risk of different in-hospital complications for patients undergoing a radical cystectomy (RC), as limited nationwide population data on short- and long-term complications after RC is available, despite it being the standard treatment for localised muscle-invasive urinary bladder cancer (UBC). PATIENTS AND METHODS In all, 7608 persons underwent a RC after UBC diagnosi...
