Zein is the major protein in corn and main byproduct of starch industry and, therefore, crucial for global agricultural commodities. Its unique fibre-forming properties, which underline its potential as a biodegradable material, have drawn intensified interest from public, scientists, industries because growing concern about environmental risks. As zein electrospun nanofibre has been studied di...
The interest in biodegradable polymer nanofibres with tissue cell regeneration potential has increased recent years. However, there are issues the development of scaffolding to provide a favourable environment for proliferation and attachment. Such can be overcome by addition hydroxyapatite (HA), which is widely used biomaterial applications. Biodegradable polycaprolactone (PCL) (HA) have been ...
Reinforcement of silica aerogels, remarkable lightweight mesoporous materials with outstanding insulation performance, is still a challenging research topic. Among the strategies used to overcome their brittleness, one most effective manufacturing aerogel composites embedded fibres. In this work, incorporation nanofibres together microfibres in tetraethoxysilane–vinyltrimethoxysilane matrix inv...
Magnetoelectric 0-1 composites comprising CoFe2O4 (CFO) nanoparticles in a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) polymer-fibre matrix have been prepared by electrospinning. The average diameter of the electrospun composite fibres is ∼325 nm, independent of the nanoparticle content, and the amount of the crystalline polar β phase is strongly enhanced when compared to pure PVDF polymer fibres. The piezo...
The compound {Fe(2)(CO)(6)[µ-S(2)C(6)H(2)(OH)(2)]} is organized by H-bond interactions on graphite and SiO(2) surfaces as micron-length nanofibres. Thermal degradation of these fibres adsorbed on SiO(2) leads to a very homogeneous surface filled with Fe(2)O(3) nanoparticles (ca. 2.5 nm diameter) suitable to produce few-walled carbon nanotubes laying on a clean surface.
Advances in nanotechnology have provided acoustic researchers with a number of new materials with nanofibres and nanopores that can potentially be implemented as an acoustic porous absorber. The molecular behaviour of these new nanoscopic materials may have a significant influence on their sound absorption; in addition, their properties could play an important role in reducing the absorber thic...
Electrospun one dimensional (1D) and two dimensional (2D) carbon based polymer nanocomposites are studied in order to determine the effect provided by the two differently structured nanofillers on crystallinity and thermo-mechanical properties of the nanofibres. The nanomaterials studied are pristine carbon nanotubes, oxidised carbon nanotubes, reduced graphene oxide and graphene oxide. Functio...
