REQUIRED) Uncertainty is a major problem in any supply chain. Inventory and excess capacities used to cope with uncertainty are significant cost drivers. Advanced information systems have been employed to support information exchange along the supply chain and were successful in synchronizing supply and demand and downsizing inventories. Applications of game theory often neglect that real-world agents normally have some amount of out-of-band information about each other. We consider the limiting case of a one-shot Prisoner’s Dilemma between algorithms with readaccess to one anothers’ source code. Previous work has shown that cooperation is possible at a Nash equilibrium in this setting, but existing constructions require intera...

We consider the one-shot Prisoner’s Dilemma between algorithms with access to one anothers’ source codes, and apply the modal logic of provability to achieve a flexible and robust form of mutual cooperation. We discuss some variants, and point out obstacles to definitions of optimality. 1 Informal Introduction Many philosophers have suggested that mutual knowledge of decision processes can enab...
We present a simple argument which proves a general version of the scaling phenomenon recently observed in donor-recipient games by Tanimoto [Tanimoto, J., 2009. A simple scaling of the effectiveness of supporting mutual cooperation in donor-recipient games by various reciprocity mechanisms. BioSystems 96, 29-34].
We show that microeconomic chaotic variations of payoffs in the prisoner's dilemma game maintain cooperation over a broad range of defection temptation values where otherwise economic stalemate reigns. Thus, unpredictability at micro scales impedes mutual defection that inflicts social poverty. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
