We investigate a reaction–diffusion process in a two-phase medium with microscopic length scale ε. The diffusion coefficients in the two phases are highly different (d1/D = ε2) and the reaction constant k is large. First, the homogenisation limit ε → 0 is taken, which leads to a two-scale model. Afterwards, we pass to the fast-reaction limit k →∞ and obtain a two-scale reaction-diffusion system...

Ionic liquids (ILs) are salts with low melting point close to room temperature. They have interesting solvent properties and are able to dissolve some polar molecules. Polyvinyl formal-IL (1-Ethyl-3methylimidazoliumtosylate) nanocomposite electrolyte with layered filler was synthesized by solution cast technique. Changes in surface morphology have been observed using optical microscopy and scan...

Abstract When an atomic-size break junction is mechanically stretched, the total conductance of the contact remains approximately constant over a wide range of elongations, although at the same time the transmissions of the individual channels (valence orbitals of the junction atom) undergo strong variations. We propose a microscopic explanation of this phenomenon, based on Coulomb correlation ...

We consider the dynamics of diffusing particles in one space dimension with annihilation on collision and nucleation (creation of particles) with constant probability per unit time and length. The cases of nucleation of single particles and nucleation in pairs are considered. A new method of analysis permits exact calculation of the steady state density and its time evolution in terms of the th...

We show that the scaling procedure, recently proposed for the evaluation of the temperature variation of the normalized upper critical field of type-II superconductors, may easily be modified in order to take into account a possible temperature dependence of the Ginzburg-Landau parameter κ. As an example we consider κ(T ) as it follows from the microscopic theory of superconductivity.

For a better understanding of the dynamics of exotic nuclei it is of crucial importance to develop a practical microscopic theory easy to be applied to a wide range of masses. Theoretically the basic task consists in formulating an easy solvable theory able to reproduce structures and transitions of known nuclei which should be then used to calculate the sparely known properties of protonor neu...

The variational discrete element method developed in [28] for dynamic elasto-plastic computations is adapted to compute the deformation of elastic Cosserat materials. In addition cellwise displacement degrees freedom (dofs), rotational dofs are added. A reconstruction devised obtain P 1 non-conforming polynomials each cell and thus constant strains stresses cell. requires only usual macroscopic...

A microscopic traffic model is presented which employs differences in velocity to characterize driver behavior. The Intelligent Driver (ID) based on an acceleration constant cannot capture different conditions. Further, it not physics and so can produce inaccurate results. proposed improved ID both are evaluated a 2000 m circular road. results obtained show that the appropriately flow density. ...
