Electrophoretic deposition (EPD) is used to assemble metal-organic framework (MOF) materials in nano- and micro-particulate, thin-film form. The flexibility of the method is demonstrated by the successful deposition of 4 types of MOFs: NU-1000, UiO-66, HKUST-1, and Al-MIL-53. Additionally, EPD is used to pattern the growth of NU-1000 thin films that exhibit full electrochemical activity.

The magnetothermal properties of a coordination polymer and a metal-organic framework (MOF) based on Gd(3+) ions are reported. An equally large cryogenic magnetocaloric effect (MCE) is found, irrespective of the dimensionality. This combined with their robustness makes them appealing for widespread magnetic refrigeration applications.

Herein we report the synthesis and characterization of light responsive metal organic framework (MOF) single crystals containing the photochromic diarylethene 1,2-bis(2,5-dimethyl-thien-3-yl)perfluorocyclopentene. Polarized light microscopy on single crystals indicates that the photochrome is preferentially aligned along the c-axis of the host.
