[1] The effects of changing ice and atmospheric conditions on the upwelling of deep nutrient‐laden waters and biological productivity in the coastal Beaufort Sea were quantified using a unique combination of in situ and remote‐sensing approaches. Repeated instances of ice ablation and upwelling during fall 2007 and summer 2008 multiplied the production of ice algae, phytoplankton, zooplankton a...

Molecular docking modelling was performed as previously described (Torrent et al., 2011). Briefl y, the docking simulations were performed using Autodock 4.2 (The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA, USA). The protein coordinates of the eight human RNases were taken from X-ray crystallography or NMR data. When no three-dimensional structure was available, the protein structures were predic...

In this paper, we present a novel system which automat-ically converts text documents into XML by using machine-learningtechniques. In the first phase, the system uses the Self-OrganizingMap (SOM) algorithm to arrange marked-up documents on a two-dimensional map such that the documents similar in content appearcloser to each other. In the second phase, it then uses the induc...

We study the large n limit of the moduli spaces of Gn-instantons on S and CP 2 where Gn is SU(n), Sp(n/2), or SO(n). We show that in the direct limit topology, the moduli space is homotopic to a classifying space. For example, the moduli space of Sp(∞) or SO(∞) instantons on CP 2 has the homotopy type of BU(k) where k is the charge of the instantons. We use our results along with Taubes’ result...

The decomposition of unitary representations of a discrete group obtained by induction from a subgroup involves commensurators. In particular Mackey has shown that quasi-regular representations are irreducible if and only if the corresponding subgroups are self-commensurizing. The purpose of this work is to describe general constructions of pairs of groups ? 0 < ? with ? 0 its own commensurator...

THE BACKGROUND Nosologies, lists of diseases or causes of death, have been compiled from quite early times, usually in connection with medical research or teaching. The one illustrated and discussed here was constructed in Geneva by Dr Marc d'Espine during the first half of the nineteenth century for "statistical" purposes, that is, for the analysis of causes of death as registered in the Canto...
