At present two views are held concerning the relationship between left ventricular and aortic pressure curves as regards contour and ordinate value. The one, sponsored by Wiggers (5) on the basis of experiments on anesthetized dogs with open chests and subscribed to by many others, holds that the systolic portions of both curves are parallel and of approximately the same height, whereas the oth...

BACKGROUND The clinical practice of pediatric anesthesiology has changed with a transition to the use of cuffed endotracheal tubes (ETTs) in infants and children. The monitoring of intracuff pressure has been suggested as one means to limit the potential for damage to the tracheal mucosa. The current study evaluates the accuracy of a novel, color-coded syringe device which provides three zones ...

Methods The test is a combined one. One hand is put into ice-cold water and at the same time constriction is applied to the neck in order to increase the venous pressure in the head. The latter is done by means of an ordinary sphygmo-manometer with the blood pressure cuff round the neck. We have only used a pressure of 40 mm. Hg. in the cuff. Bloomfield (1947) and Bloomfield and Kelterman (1947...

NIST pressure calibration services with nitrogen are now based on two transfer standard piston gages for which the effective areas have been determined by calibration with the manometer developed at NIST for gas thermometry. Root-sum-squared three sigma uncertainties for the areas for the two gages are 3.05 ppm and 4.18 ppm.

BACKGROUND Despite intermittent control of tracheal cuff pressure (P cuff) using a manual manometer, cuff underinflation (<20 cmH2O) and overinflation (>30 cmH2O) frequently occur in intubated critically ill patients, resulting in increased risk of microaspiration and tracheal ischemic lesions. The primary objective of our study was to determine the efficiency of an electronic device in continu...
