Pactola fiji sp. n. is the first species from the tribe Eugnomini described from the Fiji Archipelago. A description, with illustrations and data about the general distribution of the genus, are provided. The genus Pactola Pascoe, 1876 now contains eleven species distributed on New Zealand, New Caledonia and Taevuni Island (Fiji Archipelago).

An 1876 theorem of Hermite, later extended by Bachmann, gives congruences modulo primes for lacunary sums over the rows of Pascal’s triangle. This paper gives an analogous result for alternating sums over a certain class of rows. The proof makes use of properties of certain linear recurrences.

Two new species of Euscorpius Thorell, 1876 (subgenus Euscorpius s.str.) (Scorpiones: Euscorpiidae) are described based on morphology and the COI DNA barcoding marker: E. deltshevi sp. n. from northern Bulgaria and neighbouring Serbia (formerly reported as E. carpathicus) and E. solegladi sp. n. from southwestern Bulgaria and neighbouring Greece (formerly reported as E. hadzii).

The highly halotolerant and allopolyploid yeast Zygosaccharomyces rouxii is industrially used for the food production in high concentrations of salt, such as brewing soy sauce and miso paste. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of Z. rouxii NBRC 1876 isolated from miso paste.
