Chromosomal translocations involving BCL6 were detected in 7 out of 392 cases of MALT lymphoma by interphase fluorescence in situ hybridisation with a BCL6 break-apart probe. With the exception of BCL6 protein expression in 2 of the 7 cases, these BCL6 translocation-positive MALT lymphomas were histologically and immunophenotypically identical to classic cases.
Primary thyroid lymphoma is a rare disease. Most of the patients have a history of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Main histopathologic subtypes are either mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) or diffuse large cell lymphomas. Treatment options are surgical resection in localised, low-grade MALT lymphomas or systemic chemotherapy in aggressive, diffuse large cell lymphomas. But, sometimes other his...
Proinflammatory cytokines that are produced by helper T cells (Th) regulate immune reactions, facilitate class switching of B cells, and prolong the lifespan of B and T cells. Eradication therapy using antibiotics is sometimes effective against gastrointestinal (GI) malignant lymphoma, suggesting that the tumor development or progression is affected by the inflammatory microenvironment. In the ...
Primary cutaneous lymphomas are the second most common site of extranodal non-Hodgkin lymphoma. A specifically type named extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphomas are indolent low-grade neoplasma. We report a case of a 42-year-old white man with multiple subcutaneous tumors located on the trunk and neck. The histopathological exam showed a non-epidermotropic, dense lymphocytic infiltrate. Histo...
MALT Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT)-type lymphoma is a relatively rare disease; nevertheless, it is the third most common lymphoma type, accounting for 5-7% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Case series and retrospective analysis published in the literature have suggested that extra gastrointestinal (GI) MALT-type lymphoma can occur simultaneously with MALT-type lymphoma involving the GI ...
Primary gastric (PG) lymphomas are generally non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL). They represent 5% of gastric malignancies and show an apparently increasing incidence worldwide. The most common histological subtypes are diffuse large B-cell and marginal zone B-cell NHL of the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT)-type. Pathogenesis is often related to Helicobacter pylori infection (HPI). There is s...
Bronchus Associated Lymphoid Tissue Lymphoma (BALTOMA) is a rare subgroup of pulmonary non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHLs) comprising less than 1% of all cases. It constitutes 3.6% of all extranodal lymphomas and only 0.5-1% of primary pulmonary malignancies. They are usually low grade B-cell lymphomas and are considered to originate from the mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) of the bronchi. ...
Background—Most low grade gastric lymphomas arising from the mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) are related to Helicobacter pylori colonisation. Cases with disease limited to the stomach can be cured after H pylori eradication and remain in remission for years. In contrast, high grade lymphomas of the stomach, although also related to H pylori, do not usually respond to eradica-

BACKGROUND Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is a well-known hematologic malignancy. The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is the most commonly involved extra nodal site. MALT lymphomas are uncommon, accounting for 5% of all NHL. Gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma is the prototype seen in association with Helicobacter pylori. Colonic MALT lymphoma is rare and comprises only 2.5% of th...
