Genes involved in magnetite biomineralization are clustered in the genome of the magnetotactic bacterium Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense. We analyzed a 482-kb genomic fragment, in which we identified an approximately 130-kb region representing a putative genomic "magnetosome island" (MAI). In addition to all known magnetosome genes, the MAI contains genes putatively involved in magnetosome bio...

We report here the draft genome sequences of two recently isolated magnetotactic species, Magnetospirillum moscoviense BB-1 and Magnetospirillum marisnigri SP-1. The genome of M. moscoviense BB-1 has 4,164,497 bp, 65.2% G+C content, and comprises 207 contigs. The genome of M. marisnigri SP-1 consists of 131 contigs and has a length of 4,619,819 bp and 64.7% G+C content.
