A single parameter model of the mean Solar limbdarkening is presented. This empirical law has the advantage to represent the limb darkening over a large spectrum at least as well as a quadratic or logarithmic law. Since it is less sensitive than high degree polynomial laws, it is recommended for subsequent analysis of average limb-darkening variations and comparisons.

We present a prescription to calculate the quadratic and logarithmic divergent parts of several integrals employing a cutoff in a coherent way, i.e. in total agreement with symmetry requirements. As examples we consider one-loop Ward identities for QED and a phenomenological chiral model.

In this paper, we present various functional means in the sense of convex analysis. In particular, a logarithmic mean involving convex functionals, extending the scalar one, is introduced. In the quadratic case, our functional approach implies immediately that of positive operators. Some examples, illustrating theoretical results and showing the interest of our functional approach, are discussed.

In this paper, we study a class of quadratic Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (BSDEs) which arises naturally in the problem of utility maximization with portfolio constraints. We first establish the existence and uniqueness for such BSDEs, and then we give an application to the utility maximization problem. Three cases of utility functions: the exponential, power and logarithmic ones,...

We present a practical and asymptotically optimal indexing structure for a versioned timestamped database with step-wise constant data. Three version operations, insertions , updates, and deletes are allowed for the present version, whereas query operations are allowed for any version, present or past. Snapshot and time-range queries can be answered optimally with this structure. As a two-level...

The study was conducted on estimation of eviscerated carcass weight using live weight as predictor for Arsi Bale sheep and goat of both the sexes, reared under farmer’s management and on natural pasture. The age group of the studied sheep and goat were <1 year (category 1) and >1 but < 2 years (category 2). The age of the animals were estimated by dentition method. The results indicated that th...

Recently, the existed proximal gradient algorithms had been used to solve non-smooth convex optimization problems. As a special nonsmooth convex problem, the singly linearly constrained quadratic programs with box constraints appear in a wide range of applications. Hence, we propose an accelerated proximal gradient algorithm for singly linearly constrained quadratic programs with box constraint...

Abstract. The Heisenberg group is one of the simplest sub-Riemannian settings in which we can define non-elliptic Hörmander type generators. We can then consider coercive inequalities associated to such generators. We prove that a certain class of nontrivial Gibbs measures with quadratic interaction potential on an infinite product of Heisenberg groups satisfy logarithmic Sobolev inequalities.

Using asymptotic analysis of the Laplace transform, we establish almost sure divergence of certain integrals and derive logarithmic asymptotic of small ball probabilities for quadratic forms of Gaussian diffusion processes. The large time behavior of the quadratic forms exhibits little dependence on the drift and diffusion matrices or the initial conditions, and, if the noise driving the equati...
