Dunican, L. K. (Cornell University, Ithaca, New York), and H. W. Seeley, Jr. Temperature-sensitive dextransucrase synthesis by a lactobacillus. J. Bacteriol. 86:1079-1083. 1963.-Dextran synthesis was found to be temperature-dependent in Lactobacillus strain RWM-13. Dextran was not formed above 37 C, although growth of cells occurred up to 42 C. Logarithmically growing cells transferred from 30 ...
The cell wall constituents of Leuconostoc citrovorum 8082, L. mesenteroides 10830a, and L. mesenteroides 11449 have been ascertained. All three strains contained glycerol. Glucose and rhamnose were the major reducing sugar constituents. Alanine, glutamic acid, lysine, glucosamine, and muramic acid were the principal amino acids and amino sugars in all three strains. In addition, strain 10830a c...
In a previous study it was observed that Leuconostoc citrovorum 8081 failed to grow on a synthetic medium adequate for the growth of Leuconostoc mesenteroides P-60 and other common assay organisms (1). However, the addition to the medium of certain extracts from liver permitted excellent growth of L. citrovorum. Similarly, folic acid stimulated growth of the organism but the amounts necessary w...
From July 2003 through October 2004, 42 patients became infected by strains of Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides (genotype 1) in different departments of Juan Canalejo Hospital in northwest Spain. During 2006, 6 inpatients, also in different departments of the hospital, became infected (genotypes 2-4). Parenteral nutrition was the likely source.
The denaturation of the dimeric enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase from Leuconostoc mesenteroides by guanidine hydrochloride has been studied using enzymatic activity, intrinsic fluorescence, circular dichroism, and light scattering measurements. Equilibrium experiments at 25 degrees C revealed that between 0.9 and 1.2 M denaturant the enzyme underwent a conformational change, exposing tr...
in the present study, the production of dextran from date extract and sucrose as carbon sources by the bacterium leuconostoc mesenteroides nrrl b512 (f) was investigated. in comparison to blue dextran (mw≈2000 da), dextran molecular weight was reduced (mw2000 kda). flow behavior indices of dextran solutions from date extracts were investigated and rheological parameters were evaluated at concen...
Information on the microbiology of camel milk is very limited. In this work, the genetic characterization and proteomic identification of 13 putative producing bacteriocin Leuconostoc strains exhibiting antilisterial activity and isolated from camel milk were performed. DNA sequencing of the 13 selected strains revealed high homology among the 16S rRNA genes for all strains. In addition, 99% ho...
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase from Leuconostoc mesenteroides is irreversibly inactivated by the 2,3'-dialdehyde of NADP+ (oNADP+) in the absence of substrate. The inactivation is first order with respect to NADP+ concentration and follows saturation kinetics, indicating that the enzyme initially forms a reversible complex with the inhibitor followed by covalent modification (KI = 1.8 mM). N...
