Nutcracker fractures of the cuboid are rare and often missed at an initial visit. They can be difficult to manage and convey a high risk of long-term pain in the foot. During the last six years, 6 recent cuboid fractures in 6 patients were treated at our hospital by open reduction, allogeneic bone grafting (where necessary) and internal fixation. Shortening of the lateral column of the foot exi...

Traumatic atlantooccipital dislocation is generally considered incompatible with life. However, there have been isolated survivals from this injury, and a few patients initially have minimal neurologic deficits disproportionate to the gravity of their injury, a feature that has not been adequately stressed. The potentially catastrophic results of delayed therapy make early radiographic detectio...

During recrystallization, dislocation-poor grains grow and invade the heavily deformed dislocation-rich matrix. In this work, we develop a coupled dislocation density and phase-field method to model the isothermal recrystallization process as a phase transformation, driven by the stored elastic energy. Dislocations are represented in two spatial dimensions in terms of a continuous Burgers vecto...

this report presents a 3.5-year-old boy who was hospitalized for limping. medical history and physical exams were not suggestive for any definitive diagnosis. laboratory and radiographic exams did not support any specific diagnosis either. subsequently bone scan was performed and increased activity in the ankle due to cuboid fracture was incidentally observed.

proximal humerus fractures are common, but associated injury of the axillary artery is uncommon. the majority of published blunt traumatic axillary artery injuries are associated with anterior glenohumeral dislocation; a few are associated with isolated proximal humerus fractures or fracture-dislocation. experience within our institution demonstrates that axillary artery injury is often unrecog...
