We analyze the bit error rate (BER) performance of indoor infrared wireless systems using on-o keying (OOK) code division multiple access (CDMA) on di use channels by taking the e ects of intersymbol interference (ISI) over several chips into account. We evaluate howmuch the transmitted power should be increased on di use channels to compensate the performance degradation due to the ISI.

We look at multiple-track detection for magnetic recording systems that use array heads to write and read over multiple tracks simultaneously. The recording channel is modeled as having intersymbol interference (ISI) in the axial direction, and intertrack interference (ITI) in the radial direction. Optimum multihead and single-head detectors are derived and analyzed in terms of error-probabilit...

We derive the two-user capacity region with and without common information for a Gaussian broadcast channel with intersymbol interference, assuming colored Gaussian noise and an input power constraint. The proof is achieved by rst deening a similar channel model, the circular broadcast channel, which can be decomposed into a set of parallel degraded broadcast channels. The capacity region for p...

Recently, ultra wideband (UWB) technology has been proposed for use in wireless personal area networks (WPANs). Under the conditions where such transceivers are expected to operate, intersymbol interference (ISI) will become a significant performance limitation, and improvements to conventional RAKE reception will be necessary. We propose a modified RAKE receiver that finds an optimal balance b...

Recently, it has been observed that terminated low-density-parity-check (LDPC) convolutional codes (or spatially-coupled codes) appear to approach capacity universally across the class of binary memoryless channels. This is facilitated by the “threshold saturation” effect whereby the belief-propagation (BP) threshold of the spatially-coupled ensemble is boosted to the maximum a-posteriori (MAP)...

Controlled intersymbol interference may be used to design bandwidth efficient coded modulation schemes. The performance of the optimum receiver depends only on the free distance of the code and is independent of its phase. Large reductions in receiver complexity are obtained by using reduced search detection techniques like the MAlgorithm (MA). However, we show that MA detector performance depe...

For the Gaussian channel with intersymbolinterference (ISI), it is known that there is no loss in channel capacity if the receiver is an ideal minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) decision-feedback equalizer (DFE) with error-free feedback. However, combining the DFE with channel coding is problematic. Transmitter precoding and reduced-state sequence estimation are two common approaches (cf. [1] an...

We study packet combining techniques for retransmission schemes over intersymbol interference (ISI) channels. Two types of combining schemes are investigated, namely, maximumlikelihood combining (MLC) and iterative combining (IC). By first employing a precoding technique and then by interpreting the ISI channel as a trellis code, the transmissions of the same data packet at different times thro...

In mobile radio communications, various phenomena such as multipath wave propagation, time dispersion, and fading introduce errors like Intersymbol interference (ISI), and other distortions into the signals that are transmitted over wireless channel in mobile radio communications. To combat errors, equalization (a sophisticated set of signal processing techniques), convolution coding and other ...

This paper proposes an interference suppression technique using nulling filter and turbo equalizer for carrier interferometry (CI) based one-cell reuse single-carrier time division multiple access (TDMA) systems. In the proposed scheme, CI technique is employed to generate CI signal which is equivalent to single carrier signal with its roll-off factor of zero. At the receiver, received CI signa...
