This paper explains the use of a sharpening filter to calculate the depth of an object from a blurred image of it. It presents a technique which is independent of edge orientation. The technique is based on the assumption that a defocused image of an object is the convolution of a sharp image of the same object with a two-dimensional Gaussian function whose spread parameter (SP) is related to t...

For high-speed low-complexity filter design, it is common practice to constrain the filters' coefficients to be power-oftwo or a sum of powers-of-two terms (P2), avoiding the full multiplication. Tapped interconnection of different sub-filters are sometimes used to enhance ripple and stop-band attenuation performances. An extension of the simple cascade architectures, suitable for hardware impl...

In this paper we present a sharpening operator for color images that is based on perceptual considerations about how human visual behaves for color scenes. Color contrast is an induction phenomenon of the visual system that varies the chromaticity of a color region depending on the color of its surround, provoking an enhanced perception of color scenes. This effect can be simulated by a sharpen...

To get a good performance from a drill bit the sharpening must be done correctly, this means that all the angles and the lengths of the edges must be exactly as established and will not occur during the grinding edge of the material structural modifications. To execute the correct sharpening are therefore required special equipment and dedicated grinding machines. The geometric elements to cons...

We have successfully extended our implicit hybrid finite element/volume solver to flows involving two immiscible fluids. The solver is based on the segregated pressure correction or projection method on staggered unstructured hybrid meshes. An intermediate velocity field is first obtained by solving the momentum equations with the matrix-free implicit cell-centered finite volume method. The pre...

In this paper, Gaussian and elliptic high pass filters are analyzed for image sharpening qualitatively and quantatively . The filters are implemented in frequency domain using matlab software. Experiments are performed to compare the performance of both the filters ,processed images are presented. The results demonstrate that elliptic yields better results.

Land surface temperature (LST) plays an important role in many fields. However, the limited spatial resolution of current thermal sensors impedes the utilization of LSTs. Based on a theoretical framework of thermal sharpening, this report presents an Enhanced Generalized Theoretical Framework (EGTF) to downscale LSTs using multi-spectral (MS) and multi-resolution images. MS proxy-sharpening and...

Suppose the auto-correlations of real-valued, centered Gaussian process Z(·) are non-negative and decay as ρ(|s − t |) for some ρ(·) regularly varying at infinity of order −α ∈ [−1, 0). With Iρ(t) = ∫ t 0 ρ(s)ds its primitive, we show that the persistence probabilities decay rate of − logP(supt∈[0,T ]{Z(t)} < 0) is precisely of order (T/Iρ(T )) log Iρ(T ), thereby closing the gap between the lo...

Two aspects of low-resolution macromolecular crystal structure analysis are considered: (i) the use of reference structures and structural units for provision of structural prior information and (ii) map sharpening in the presence of noise and the effects of Fourier series termination. The generation of interatomic distance restraints by ProSMART and their subsequent application in REFMAC5 is d...

Melissa Strait, Sheida Rahmani, Daria Markurjev Faculty Advisor: Todd Wittman UCLA Department of Mathematics August 2008 Abstract Pan-sharpening combines a low-resolution color multispectral image with a high-resolution grayscale panchromatic image to create a high-resolution fused color image. In this paper we examine five different pan-sharpening methods: IHS, PCA, Wavelet fusion, P+XS, and V...
