Last year in 2013, we reported an outbreak due to indigo-pigmented Acinetobacter baumannii strains in a hospital from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of one of the strains (A. baumannii A33405) involved in the outbreak. This isolate was categorized as extensively drug-resistant (XDR) and harbors different genetic elements associated with horizontal genetic tr...

Indigo di- and monoimines can be protonated to form stable salts in which the central C=C bond has isomerized from a trans to cis configuration. Deprotonation of these salts regenerates the neutral trans species. The protonation chemistry of indigo is also explored.

It is widely accepted that indigo dyes derived from Murex trunculus were used to produce the biblical dyes tekhelet and argaman. We describe a method of following the debromination of natural leucoindigos and their binding to wool using NMR spectroscopy. Debromination is observed prior to reaction with the wool and prior to oxidation. Binding to the wool is shown to occur prior to oxidation. NM...

Renesting after nest predation is ultimately an adaptive response to increase productivity in birds. However, renesting also increases reproductive effort to replace lost clutches. We investigated the consequences of this increased reproductive effort by determining whether renesting in female indigo buntings (Passerina cyanea) is associated with a decline in body condition (size-corrected mass...

The Fabaceae family (Leguminosae) consists of approximately 650 genera and 18,000 species, it is one of the largest Angiosperm families [1,2]. The genus Indigofera comprises around 700 species that are distributed geographically in tropical regions [3]. I. heterantha locally known as ghoreja or kainthaye (in Pashtho), Jangli methi (in Urdu) and Himalayan Indigo (in English) extensively spread i...

Six rotenoids have isolated from Indigofera tinctoria, characterized by means of their spectral data and/or co-tlc. The total estimation studies revealed that rotenol was major rotenoid in both in vivo and in vitro. Similarly, by elicitation studies, we observed that summatrol synthesis was higher at the concentration of 0.01 mM ergosterol and salicylic acid. Among all sequential fractions, met...
