This paper is devoted to the study of a hydrodynamical equation of Riemann type, generalizing the remarkable Gurevich–Zybin system. This multi-component non-homogenous hydrodynamic equation is characterized by the only characteristic flow velocity. The compatible bi-Hamiltonian structures and Lax type representations of the 3-and 4-component generalized Riemann type hydrodynamical system are an...

At high energy densities any quantum field theory is expected to have an effective hydrodynamic description. When combined with the gravity/gauge duality an unified picture emerges, where gravity itself can have a formal holographic hydrodynamic description. This provides a powerful tool to study black holes in a hydrodynamic setup. We study the stability of plasma balls, holographic duals of S...

We develop the kinetic theory of dilute cohesive granular gases in which the attractive part is described by a square well potential. We derive the hydrodynamic equations from the kinetic theory with the microscopic expressions for the dissipation rate and the transport coefficients. We check the validity of our theory by performing the direct simulation Monte Carlo.

This paper describes hydrodynamic focusing inside a micromachined flow cytometer. Flow cytometry is a process whereby cells are analyzed and sorted based on hydrodynamic focusing phenomenon and specific cellular characteristics. In this study, the hydrodynamic focusing phenomenon is first modeled by employing potential flow theory. Then the flow field inside the flow cytometer is numerically si...

Building a self-gravitating hydrodynamic code as a combination of a hydrodynamic solver and a gravity solver is discussed. We show that straightforward combining those two solvers generally leads to a code that does not conserve energy locally, and instead a special Consistency Condition ought to be satisfied. A particular example of combining Softened Lagrangian Hydrodynamics (SLH) with a PM g...

The accepted theory of joint lubrication is that of MacConaill (1932), who assembled arguments to show that it was an example of hydrodynamic or full-film lubrication. The principal argument in applying the hydrodynamic theory to animal joints was the anatomical fact that in joints the curvatures of articulating surfaces are not completely congruous throughout their whole arc of movement. It wa...

The problem of expansion of a dilute granular gas consisting of smooth, inelastic hard spheres into vacuum was investigated by three different methods: both (1) analytical and (2) computational (CFD) treatments of a hydrodynamic model, and (3) by Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulation. Furthermore, the systems were followed for long times, over which the granular kinetic energy decreases by s...

Many features of granular media can be modelled as a fluid of hard spheres with inelastic collisions. Under rapid flow conditions, the macroscopic behavior of grains can be described through hydrodynamic equations. At lowdensity, a fundamental basis for the derivation of the hydrodynamic equations and explicit expressions for the transport coefficients appearing in them is provided by the Boltz...

The slow rolling motion of leukocytes along the walls of blood vessels mediated by specific receptor-ligand adhesion is important in inflammation and occurs in postcapillary venules over a wide range of wall shear stresses and vessel diameters. The ability of hydrodynamic collisions between cells to induce capture of free-stream leukocytes to a selectin-bearing surface under shear flow was stud...
