Esophageal cancer incidence rates have been increasing over the past years and survival remain low. According to Global Cancer Observatory, 3.1% of new cases consists esophageal 5.5% deaths was due cancer. Histologic classification comprises either squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) or Adenocarcinoma. Other types are reported be uncommon. We present a case 33-year old male admitted progressive dysph...

Non–small cell lung carcinoma is a histologically diverse group of tumors that until recently has been treated homogeneously. As a result, pathologists recognized major classes of squamous, adenocarcinoma, and large cell carcinoma, with subclasses and variants to ensure accurate diagnosis, to identify rare subtypes, to assist pathologist communication, and to create uniformity in research despi...

Correct subclassification of B cell lymphoma requires integration histologic and immunohistochemical findings in addition to results flow cytometric immunophenotyping, cytogenetic analysis, molecular studies. Evaluation for the MYD88 L265P mutation staining LEF1 can be helpful workup small lymphomas. In this case report two diagnostically difficult cases, we present patients with lymphoplasmacy...

PURPOSE Preoperative histologic classification of solid renal masses remains limited with current technology. We determine the utility of molecular profiling based on quantitative methylation analysis for characterization of sporadic renal cell carcinoma. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN Primary renal cell carcinomas representing three different histologic subtypes were obtained from a total of 38 patient...

OBJECTIVES Positron emission tomography using [(18)F]-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose ((18)F-FDG-PET) plays an important role in many oncological settings. In this study, we assessed the utility of (18)F-FDG PET-CT for predicting the histologic type and stage of thymic epithelial tumours. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 58 patients with thymic epithelial tumours who underwent PET-CT before treat...

BACKGROUND Ovarian carcinoma is composed of five major histologic types, which associate with outcome and predict therapeutic response. Our aim was to evaluate histologic type assessments across the centers participating in the Ovarian Tumor Tissue Analysis (OTTA) consortium using an immunohistochemical (IHC) prediction model. METHODS Tissue microarrays (TMA) and clinical data were available ...

Glucose metabolism has been shown to be increased in neoplastic tissue. It has been suggested that high activity of glucose metabolism is associated with a high grade of malignancy of human cancer. We studied in vivo glucose metabolism in 22 patients with untreated non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) and positron emission tomography (PET). FDG uptake in lymphoma dep...

We present a case report of a rare synovial hemangioma of the knee. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated typical signal characteristics and enhancement. Histologic findings were confirmatory. Imaging characteristics, differential diagnoses and classification are discussed. A review of the relevant literature is provided.

An outline of human upper respiratory tumors is presented, based on the World Health Organization's classification of such tumors. The discussion and illustrations are devoted mainly to the nasal passages, and emphasis is placed on lesions that are potentially confusing because of problems of terminology or unusual histologic features.
