Glioma stem-like cells (GSCs) are undifferentiated cells that are considered to be an origin of glioblastomas. Furthermore, they may contribute to treatment resistance and recurrence in glioblastomas. GSCs differentiate into differentiated glioma cells (non-glioma stem-like cells: non‑GSCs), and interconversion might occur between GSCs and non-GSCs. We investigated whether interferon-beta (IFN-...

Giant Cell Fibroma (GCF) was described as a new entity of fibrous hyperplastic soft tissue. It seems that stimulus from an unexplained origin can have a role in its etiology. Histopathologically GCF is consisted of multinucleated fibroblasts that have oval shape nuclei within the eosinophilic cytoplasm. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice and recurrence is very rare. Here we report a c...

Glioblastoma is the most frequent and malignant brain tumor. The vast majority of glioblastomas (~90%) develop rapidly de novo in elderly patients, without clinical or histologic evidence of a less malignant precursor lesion (primary glioblastomas). Secondary glioblastomas progress from low-grade diffuse astrocytoma or anaplastic astrocytoma. They manifest in younger patients, have a lesser deg...

Point mutations at Arg132 of the cytoplasmic NADP(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) occur frequently in gliomas and result in a gain of function to produce the "oncometabolite" D-2-hydroxyglutarate (D-2HG). The mutated IDH1 allele is usually associated with a wild-type IDH1 allele (heterozygous) in cancer. Here, we identify 2 gliomas that underwent loss of the wild-type IDH1 allele...

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Peripheral and central giant cell granuloma are two common benign lesions of the oral cavity. In spite of histopathological similarities, they have different clinical behaviors. Cathepsin D is a lysosomal enzyme which has different functions on the basis of protein and applied peptide cleavage. PURPOSE This research aimed to evaluate and compare the expression level o...

A case involving the rare occurance of hyperparathyroidism in association with neurofibromatosis is reported.Radiographic findings revealed multiple radiolucency which diagnosed as giant cell lesions. Also, high levels of PTH and alkalan phosphatase were found from repeated measurements of the serum.Neurofibromatosis associated with hyperparathyroidism diagnosed in this case report.

To avoid artefacts introduced by culturing cells for extended periods of time, it is crucial to use low-passage patient-derived tumour cells. The ability to enrich, isolate and assay sub-populations of cells that behave as cancer stem cells (CSCs) from these primary cell lines is essential before performing characterizations such as gene-expression profiling. We have isolated cells from gliobla...

Recognition of the role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in developing the rich vascularity of glioblastomas, which contributes to their growth and resistance to radiation, surgery, and chemotherapy, has led to clinical trials of agents targeting VEGF or VEGF receptors 1 and 2. VEGF has been targeted with the mouse anti-human VEGF antibody avastin (bevacizumab), which has undergone ...
