Abstract It is well known that the classical recombination equation for two parent individuals equivalent to law of mass action a strongly reversible chemical reaction network, and can thus be reformulated as generalised gradient system. Here, this case an arbitrary number parents. Furthermore, structure backward-time partitioning process investigated.
Maintenance of sexual reproduction and genetic recombination imposes physiological costs when compared to parthenogenic reproduction, most prominently: for maintaining the corresponding (molecular) machinery, for finding a mating partner, and through the decreased fraction of females in a population, which decreases the reproductive capacity. Based on principles from information theory, we have...
Low-frequency (10(-6)) genetic recombination was observed in a cephamycin-producing strain of Streptomyces griseus. The recombinants were predominantly heteroclones. Heteroclone analysis was performed involving four heteroclones of one cross. In 100 mutants correlation was found between the type of auxotrophy and the level of antibiotic activity. A cross of this strain with a streptomycin-produ...
HE past few decades have witnessed the successive description in biochemiTcal-or “molecular”-terms of the great formal entities of classical genetics. The lickage group was early identified with the objectively seen chromosome, then the gene itself, in its wild and mutant forms, more and more closely related to the linear DNA regions thereof. We have seen the identification of the gene product ...
A system for genetic exchange in Rhodopseudomonas capsulata has been discovered. Each genetic marker thus far examined can be transferred, and many strains of Rps. capsulata can participate in genetic exchange. The mechanism of gene transfer seems unlike that of any previously described bacterial system, since genes can be transferred by cell-free filtrates, but the vector is resistant to deoxy...

Symmetry considerations of proteinnucleic acid interaction suggest the existence of an alternate branched configuration for DNA induced by binding specific structural proteins to symmetrically arranged polynucleotide base sequences. The concept that such sequences exist at the ends of genes or operons leads to a molecular model for genetic recombination in eukaryotic cells.
SUMMARY: Genetic recombination has been shown to occur in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Crosses between 18 biochemical mutants of 4 strains were studied and, although non-random segregation was found for non-selective markers, it has not yet been possible to draw conclusions concerning gene order or linkage. The progeny obtained from crosses tended to resemble one parent more than the other. The 4 st...
In analyzing genetic linkage data it is common to assume that the locations of crossovers along a chromosome follow a Poisson process, whereas it has long been known that this assumption does not fit the data. In many organisms it appears that the presence of a crossover inhibits the formation of another nearby, a phenomenon known as "interference." We discuss several point process models for r...
