Different forms of perceptual memory have opposite physiological effects. Whereas repetition priming often leads to suppression of brain responses, explicit recognition has been found to enhance brain activity. We investigated effects of repetition priming and recognition memory on early gamma-band responses. In a study phase, participants performed a visual discrimination task with task-irrele...

The Advanced Compton Telescope (ACT) has been suggested to be the optimal next-generation instrument to study nuclear gammaray lines. In this work, we investigate the potential of three hypothetical designs of the ACT to perform SN science. We provide estimates of 1) the SN detection rate, 2) the SN Ia discrimination rate, and 3) which gamma-ray lines would be detected from specific supernova r...

فرض کنید w یک گروه و w=(s) که در آن s = {s1,. . sn | (sisj)mij = 1, 1 ? i,j ? n} و m_ij in z و به ازای هر i, m_ij= 1 در این صورت گروه w را یک گروه کاکستر می نامیم.

Recent theories posit that adult neurogenesis supports dentate gyrus pattern separation and hence is necessary for some types of discrimination learning. Using an inducible transgenic mouse model, we investigated the contribution of adult-born neurons to spatial and nonspatial touch-screen discriminations of varying levels of difficulty. Arresting neurogenesis caused a modest but statistically ...

A real-time FPGA-based algorithm has been developed and tested to discriminate pulse-shapes, identify beta-gamma coincidence events and collect energy spectra from xenon radioisotopes using a phoswich detector. The detector consists of a thin plastic scintillator (BC-400) to detect beta and conversion electrons, a CsI(Tl) crystal for measuring X-rays and gamma-rays, and a BGO crystal, which sur...

We have identified an S-phase DNA damage checkpoint in Schizosaccharomyces pombe. This checkpoint is dependent on Rad3, the S. pombe homolog of the mammalian ATM/ATR checkpoint proteins, and Cds1. Cds1 had previously been believed to be involved only in the replication checkpoint. The requirement of Cds1 in the DNA damage checkpoint suggests that Cds1 may be a general target of S-phase checkpoi...

Gamma-ray pulsars are among the best targets for the Large Area Telescope (LAT) aboard the GLAST mission. The higher sensitivity, time and energy resolution of the LAT will provide data of fundamental importance to understand the physics of these fascinating objects. Powerful tools for studying the LAT capabilities for pulsar science are the simulation programs developed within the GLAST Collab...

Interferon (IFN)-gamma release assays (IGRA) have improved tuberculosis contact tracing, but discrimination of recent from remote Mycobacterium tuberculosis contacts is not possible by IGRA alone. We present results of a tuberculosis contact investigation with a new early-secretory-antigenic-target (ESAT)-6 and culture-filtrate-protein (CFP)-10 specific interleukin (IL)-2 ELISpot in addition to...

Satisfactory discrimination between the neutron and gamma components in a mixed neutron-gamma field is one of most important objectives dosimetry. One common techniques for estimating dose fields two peak method. This method has been applied using dosimeters such as LiF:Mg,Ti, but present work, 6LiF:Mg,Cu,P dosimeter used, whose thermoluminescence sensitivity much higher than LiF:Mg,Ti dosimete...

Rabbits were trained to discriminate patterns consisting of straight bars and rows of dots of different orientation. It was found that using proximal pattern presentation, at a distance of 5 cm in front of the animal, dot rows of different orientation are not discriminated on the basis of tilt extrapolation, but by the use of regional cues.
